OneSearch

Google Directions

OneSearch is a federated search tool that enables the user to search all HCPS electronic resources (databases, library catalog, e-journal, etc.) simultaneously from one interface. OneSearch provided citations and abstract, full-text articles, electronic books and records in HCPS library’s catalog.

In order to access OneSearch outside HCPS building, you will have to use your HCPS username and password. Enter the level you want to search.

Basic Search

Enter the keyword(s) in the Enter Search Criteria. You must Select category or List of resources to search. You may search from more than one category and resources.

Select Search.

Advance Search

Advance search allows you to perform:

Boolean Searches.

In the Enter Search criteria area, select And to narrow a search. The more words or phrases connected by and, the fewer results will be retrieved.

In the Enter Search criteria area, select Or to broaden a search.

In the Enter Search criteria area, select Not to narrow a search. It will exclude any document containing the search term used with it.

Advance Search

Search by type: All, Keyword, Title, Author, Abstract, and Subject

In the Enter Search criteria, you are able to use the drop-down list of search type. These include:

 All: Searches all the fields available (varies by resources).

Keyword: Searches anywhere in the record.

Title: Searches the title field only.

Author: Searches the author field only.

Abstract: Searches for abstract only. An abtract is similar to a summary

 Subject: Searches the subject field(s) only

 

Tips: Using All and Keyword will produce a wide search while Title, Author, Abstract, and Subject will narrow the search.

 

Advance Search

Search by Publication date, this search allows you to narrow your search by selecting a date range.

In the Enter Search Criteria area, select the radio button for Year range (All dates is the default).

From the drop-down menu, select the date range.

Viewing Search results

There are several different types of buttons that can be displayed beneath each result list.

 View: Provides more information and may include a link to access full text.

View Image: Opens the page image with additional options to print or download. This page also provided links for viewing the citation and Tale of Content.

Full-text with graphics: Opens the Full-text version with graphics displayed.

     Text: Opens the full-text version.

Text with graphics: Opens the full-text version with graphic displayed.

#PDF Pages: Opens a PDF full-text version and indicated number of pages.

     About this Publications: Gives detailed information about the publication to include ISBN, Table of Content, etc.

How to Cite: Gives MLA and APA citation

Printing Result List

Each result list allows you to Select or Deselect All

Select the checkboxes for the desired result list.

Print: Click the Print Result link at the top of the page.

A window with the results and a Print window appear. Print as normal.

Saving Result list

Saving: Click on the Save Result link at the top of the page.

Select the radio button for Save as Plain Text file. Plain text files will open in word processing programs

Click Save and select the destination for saving files.

Emailing Result list

Emailing: Click on the Email Result link at the top of the page

Complete the fields and click on Send
