To help parents understand the laptop initiative, every parent of a student new to HCPS Middle Schools is required to complete parent technology orientation. Parents who have completed training for an older sibling or parents who are HCPS teachers are not required to attend training but are encouraged to attend.
If you are in need of training, you may attend in-person training sessions hosted at any HCPS middle school or you may complete parent training online by using the links below. Online training is updated each fall and available to parents of students new to HCPS schools each school year. Live sessions in HCPS middle schools are held during the early fall only.
TO COMPLETE ONLINE PARENT TRAINING:
- Download the Parent Training Study Guide by clicking one of the links below. Use this to take notes while you view the videos. Then you can use these to assist you when you take the online assessment. In the event that there is an issue with your online assessment, a completed, correct paper version of the study guide can be turned in for credit. It is available in both Word and PDF format.

Please notify your school’s technology AP via the links below if you have already met training requirements for your 6th grade child.
If you are in need of training, you may attend in-person training sessions hosted at any HCPS middle school or you may complete parent training online by using the links below. Online training is updated each fall and available to parents of students new to HCPS schools each school year. Live sessions in HCPS middle schools are held during the early fall only. Middle Schools have a compiled schedule of all training sessions held in HCPS middle schools. If you would like to attend a live training session at your school, you may access the schedule for these on this website by accessing the link above for “Parent Training” and then selecting “Live”.

- Take the online assessment by clicking on your child’s school below. You will not receive credit for the assessment until you click the SUBMIT button at the end. In the event that there are technical issues with the online assessment, you can turn in the completed study guide form as evidence of completing training to your child’s school.

Hours for the Help Desk at each school:
Before you visit the Help Desk for repairs, please do the following:
- Restart your computer while at school
- Backup your school work (if possible)
- Be ready to describe the problems you are experiencing in detail
(What happens? When does it happen? How often does the problem occur?)
- Receive a pass from your teacher
Loaner Laptop Policy
- Loaners will be available by a first come, first serve basis when a computer goes out for repair
- Loaners are not issued for quick repair situations when the computer is repaired in-house
- You must have your laptop case with you in order to receive a loaner
- You are responsible for the loaner and adhering to the code of conduct when using a loaner

SchoolSpace is the learning management system we use in Henrico as a content organizational tool. SchoolSpace is available wherever there is an Internet connection. Teachers can give content to students and have students return assignments to them. It contains tools for communication and collaboration. It is also used for secure online testing. This video shows you how you can log in to SchoolSpace using your student’s login and password to see what your child is doing in school.
