The Department of Technology is committed to providing a superior level of technological services, support, resources, and vision that facilitates and supports student learning and day-to-day operations for Henrico County Public Schools. Our goal is to support student learning and achievement by providing effective and efficient technology services that support the HCPS strategic plan, ensuring successful implementation of division technology projects, and providing exceptional client services for the entire Henrico community. Aside from supporting the many Learning resources our students use, the technology department supports PowerSchool (our student information system) and a variety of other student-centered resources such as online transcripts, online testing, online forms, and School Messenger communications.

Security
Henrico County Public Schools is diligent about keeping students’ information private and secure. We employ state-of-the-art firewall technology to prevent intrusion and implement controls to be sure data is only accessible to authorized users. We deploy a content filtering solution that supports instruction but limits access to inappropriate websites and content.
Passwords
Every teacher and student is issued a unique login and password. This password is used to login into most HCPS resources. It is important to keep this password secure. You should not tell your password to anyone else or write it down where anyone has access to it. Students are required to change their passwords at the beginning of the school year and again mid-year. Teachers are required to change their passwords every 90 days but anyone may change their password at any time.
Resources
All electronic resources purchased by HCPS are reviewed by our legal department to be sure students’ data is protected. We comply to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act.) In addition, the terms and conditions of all approved web-based resources used in classrooms with students under 13, have been reviewed by our legal department to insure that student data is protected and kept private.
