This past year, I had the opportunity to organize a computer science workshop for three local elementary schools: Ridge, Three Chopt, and Tuckahoe. The idea came about because I realized how I never really had been introduced to computer science as an elementary student and I wanted to make sure that this would change.
The session I organized consisted of a basic introduction to computer science principles. I gave a demonstration on how students must be very specific when coding a computer, and then introduced them to a game called LightBot, which enforces this idea even though it did not require code. When the program ended, I gave each student a list of coding resources so that they could continue learning at home.
