Reminder!  
Please have your child practice their basic addition and subtraction facts up to 20. Double digit addition and subtraction is more challenging when a student does not know their basic facts. Thank you!

GIFTED IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION

Parent referrals for gifted identification will be accepted in October and January for the following grade levels:

  • Students in Kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 can be referred beginning January 2 to January 19, 2018.

Submit referrals in writing (email is acceptable) to the Associate Principal, Tonia H. Christian, thchristian@henrico.k12.va.us during the appropriate referral period.  Subject line of email should state Gifted Referral and the email should include student’s first and last name, grade level, teacher and area of referral (English, Math or Both English and Math).   An email confirmation will be sent by the following day.  If you do not receive an email confirmation, please call the school.

Week of 12/11

What are we learning about this week?
Language Arts – friendly letter writing
Math – double digit subtraction
Social Studies – customs, traditions, and diversity (different types of holidays)

SCA Spirit Dress Up Days (participation is optional)
Dec. 11th – Merry Monday – wear winter clothes
Dec. 12th – Twin Tuesday – wear the same outfit as a friend
Dec. 13th – Work Our Wednesday – wear your athletic gear
Dec. 14th – Tacky Thursday – wear your tackiest outfit (mismatched colors)
Dec. 15th – Festive Friday – wear holiday colors OR pajamas

Mrs. Smith, the art teacher, is in need of toilet tissue rolls or cylinders for some fun art projects!  She needs hundreds, so please consider collecting a few and sending them to school in your child’s book bag.  There is a box outside of the art room door where they can be added to the collection.

Winter Break begins Monday, December 18th.  School will reopen on Tuesday, January 2nd.  Have a wonderful time with family and friends!

Science – human and natural influences on habitats

Dec. 8th – Habitat Unit Test & Spirit Night from 5 – 9p at The Rink at West Broad Village

Thank you to all of the chaperones who volunteered for our field trip to the Science Museum this past Thursday.  The kids had a blast!

Math – place value (ten more, ten less, one more, one less)
Science – animal adaptations

December 1st – Cubs Night In
December 5th – Spirit Day/Night at Chipotle (must show flyer)
December 8th – Science Test on Habitat Unit (living/non living, habitats, fossils, adaptations, man made influences on habitats) *Students should study using their science notebooks and other classwork that has been sent home.

Week of 11/20

What are we learning about this week?
Language Arts:  proper nouns
Math:  reviewing place value; hundreds chart (ten more, ten less, one more, one less)
Science:  habitats; fossils

On Tuesday, November 21st, we will be eating lunch in the classroom.  The K-2 classes will participate in the Turkey Trot Run from 12:00 – 12:30.  Please make sure your child wears athletic shoes and dresses appropriately for the weather.  If you are interested in helping, please sign up here:

Report cards will be sent home on November 21st.  Please remove the report card from the envelope and keep the report card at home.  Please sign and return the envelope.  I use these envelopes each marking period.  Thank you!

Schools will be closed from November 22nd – 24th for Thanksgiving Break.  School will reopen on November 27th.

Animal Habitat Projects are due on November 28th!
