Week of: October 22nd, 2018

This week during reading, we will look forward to seeing the creativity of all our 3rd graders when presenting their pumpkin book reports. We will also explore the dictionary/ glossary and functional text such as, recipes and directions. We will use these resources to find definitions, synonyms, antonyms, parts of speech, etc. We will review ABC order but will be a review of 2nd grade. Please provide extra practice with your student if needed. In English, we will explore pronouns and compose gratitude letters to our military as writing assignment. Our focus in math will be addition strategies with and without regrouping. It is vital that all students have mastered addition and subtraction facts to 20, in order to move into more in depth math concepts and processes. In science, we will be identifying and observing the characteristics of various habitats.

On Tuesday November 13th, we will be visiting the Virginia Living Museum to learn more about animals, adaptations, and ecosystems. We still have a few students who need to return their field trip permission form and payment.  Please do this as soon as possible. This year KES parents have the option of paying for field trips online.  Please visit http://osp.osmsinc.com/HenricoVA to set-up an account. Please click the following link for specific directions: KES: Online School Payments. Chaperones will be chosen on Tuesday, October 24th.  We will contact everyone who has let us know they are interested in chaperoning to let them know who are the lucky winners! If you are chosen, please send in $36 to cover your cost either with exact cash or a check.

We will have our class spelling bees in the next month. Teachers will make sure that everyone is here in order for all to be able to participate. We will use the Spelling Bee Notes and Classroom Pronouncer Guide to administer our class bee. Each class will have one participant qualify for the school-wide bee on November 27. We will also have a runner up in case the winner is not available on that day.

Our Annual Veterans Day Assembly is right around the corner. Please consider inviting a guest veteran to be with us during our assembly. Mark your calendars for Friday, November 9th, 9:00 AM -10:30 AM. More information about our assembly will be shared next week; however, we wanted you to be aware that we will be collecting items again this year. Please review the list of needed items and begin shopping now:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BmdTd_kVFtc0BFqeQ_ypUczyX4koK7vQo7mGt1FuEzs/edit?usp=sharing  Thank you for your generosity in the past with our troop collection, and we hope this year we can collect enough items to pack lots of boxes to send to the troops.
