  4. Day 1 Site Visit/Data Collection
    • 11 classroom observations
    • A classroom observation tool similar to this will be used
    • 2 Teacher Interviews (30-40 minutes with 6-8 teachers)
    • 2 Student Interviews (30-40 minutes with 6-8 students)
  5. Day 2 Site Visit/Data Collection and Reporting
    • 9 classroom observations
    • Analysis of data and development of report
  6. Follow-up Meeting 
    • Persons involved: principal, members of the administrative team, ITRT, key teacher leaders, and Reflective Friends lead.
    • Summation report is presented to the leadership Sample Report
    • Commenations and Next Steps are discussed
    • Support structures are considered
  7. Delivery of Report
    • Report is completed based on data collected from outside team and follow-up conversation.
    • Report is emailed to principal

Additional Details:

  • Teachers should be aware of the coming observations and encouraged to display their strongest 21st century lessons. Half of the teachers observed will be chosen by the school’s leadership team and half will be randomly selected. Both groups will be informed of their involvement prior to the observation cycle.
  • Observation teams will be composed of educational consultants, HCPS administrator volunteers, and HCPS Instructional Technology personnel.
  • The Reflective Friends process can be extended and revisited in future calendar years to further explore longitudinal data.

Commitments/Responsibilities

Reflective Friends Team Provides:

  • Faculty Intro Materials
  • Observers/interviewers
  • Observation tools
  • Interview questions/matrix
  • Summary report with commendations and next steps

School Provides:

  • Point of contact for scheduling and questions
  • Select half of teachers for observation (depending on schedule)  Team randomly selects other half.
  • Assistance with scheduling teacher interviews/student interviews
  • Space for student/teacher interviews
  • Meeting location for the two days of the site visit.
