WEEK OF 3.5-3.9

READING/Language arts PLANS:
Word study continues this week. Students will continue to work on various reading skills through both whole group read aloud/think aloud and small group, differentiated instruction.

MATH PLANS:
Our probability unit continues this week. The students will take a final test on Friday, March 9. Remember, multiplication fact mastery is essential for fourth grade. This is something that can be practiced in the car while running errands!

SCIENCE PLANS:
HILL AND HOOKER begin their unit on Energy.
Study Guides Passed Out: Monday, March 5 (consists of Study Guide page and flashcards)
Test on: Friday, March 16

SOCIAL STUDIES PLANS:
DAMRON AND KELLY begin their unit on Explorers.

ADDITIONS AND REVISIONS:
• Tuesday, March 6: This is the day of the VA General Primary Election. We will eat in the classroom on this day. If you did not return the bright green page to indicate your student’s choice, please try to pack a lunch that day.
• March 8: Black History Month performance (PTA Sponsored)
• March 8: All Pro Dads Dinner
• March 16: Celtic Dancing Assembly
• March 19: No School Students
• March 23: PTA Talent Show

READING/Language arts PLANS:
We will continue to work on summarizing and compare and contrast, as these are essential third grade skills. Word study resumes this week. Sorting the words is an essential piece of the word study program. Please have your student sort the words each night.

MATH PLANS:
We begin a new unit on Probability Monday. PLEASE CONTINUE TO STUDY MULTIPLICATION FACTS ON A DAILY BASIS!!!!! This is an ESSENTIAL skill to have before students move to 4th grade.

SCIENCE PLANS:
DAMRON AND KELLY continue their unit on Energy.

• Book Fair Kick Off: Friday, Feb. 24 at 7PM, please see the PTA Website for more information. www.pinchbeckpta.com
o Students will be allowed to purchase books before and after school. See website for more information.
• Math Night: Thursday, March 1, 6:30-7:30 at Pinchbeck

READING/Language arts PLANS:

Word study will resume this week.  Students will read Papa Tells Chita a Story.  Novel studies are continuing.  Please be working on book reports.  This information was given out on Friday, Jan. 27.  They are due Feb. 13.

 

MATH PLANS:

We will begin our math switching this week.  Please encourage your student to do his/her best.  The unit we are starting is on geometry.  PLEASE CONTINUE TO STUDY MULTIPLICATION FACTS ON A DAILY BASIS!!!!!

 

SCIENCE PLANS:

DAMRON AND KELLY continue science this week.  They will have a short unit on Soil.

SOCIAL STUDIES PLANS:

HILL AND HOOKER continue social studies.  They will have a short unit on Famous Americans.

ADDITIONS AND REVISIONS:

  • February 16:  Third Grade Black History Month performance, 7PM in the cafeteria
  • Theater IV Field Trip on 2-23-12.
  • Please dress your student for the weather!  We go out for fresh air if the temperature is above 32 degrees!
  • Send a daily snack.
  • Recognition Assembly:  Feb. 10 at 8:30AM.
  • Report Cards home on Feb. 13.
  • Student Holiday, Feb. 20.
