ESL teachers build lessons based on the English Language Development Standards (ELD) that are aligned with topics in core content areas. Teachers develop lessons that include opportunities for students to practice and be assessed in listening, speaking, reading and writing English. Teachers teach vocabulary and grammar in the context of the core content. Pacing is based on the topics (not content) of the core content and the proficiency level of the English learners with whom they work.
