Student Resources

Moody offers direct gifted services through our grade level elective classes…here’s a snapshot of our curriculum!

The curriculum for our 6th grade semester class includes:

  • Historical mystery – Students take on the role of a historian as they discover clues about the “day in the life of…” at a local historical site
  • Feelin’ Blue – Students become experts on a body system and then work together to diagnose and treat a patient
  • IB Survivin’ – Students learn tips and tricks to homework, studying, and organization as they explore their personal strengths and talents
  • L4C Service Learning – Students plan and execute a service learning project for a selected local non-profit
  • Logic Sleuth – Students hone their logic matrix and spatial reasoning skills

The curriculum for our 7th grade semester class includes:

  • Personal Finance – students find a career-related job in the Richmond area and then create a balanced budget that includes an apartment, car loan, etc…while also taking into account retirement, savings, and other monthly variables.
  • FBI/CSI – students participate in various simulations to explore the science behind crime detection,  and we have the FBI visit for a special cyber-presentation
  • Logic and Spatial Reasoning – students strengthen their deductive logic and reasoning skills through various logic matrix and spatial reasoning puzzles and strategy-based games
  • World Culture Unit – teams of students work together to “race” around the globe, visiting and learning about different cultures along the way

The curriculum for our 8th grade full year HS class includes:

  • Myers Briggs/Careers/HS Prep – Students determine personal strengths and interests to align with potential high school, college, and career options. We spend time helping students prepare for the HS application process
  • Engineering – Students participate in a rocket launch mini-unit with other gifted 8th graders in the county, and then enter a gravity coaster competition that results in a Kings Dominion field trip
  • L4C Service Learning – Students participate in a national leadership curriculum and team up with local non-profit organizations to develop, plan, and implement a service learning project.
  • Strategy Games – students analyze multiple competitive and cooperative strategy techniques and then kids have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to their own creation
  • Ancient Civilizations – this dovetails with students’ World History curriculum as it forces teams to use strategy and innovation to take over their ‘world’
