I like, You Like

I like, You Like

This week we are focusing on comparing and contrasting using Venn Diagrams.  Today we paired up with a friend and talked about things we liked and did not like. We made our own venn diagrams to compare and contrast ourselves. We discovered that we have a lot of similarities and that we also have a lot of differences! It’s always so fun to take a reading skill and apply it to real life! Check out our pictures below!

Here are two examples of our venn diagrams. We can’t wait to display them in the classroom so everyone can see!

“Falling” into 2nd

“Falling” into 2nd

This week we welcomed autumn by reading the story, Leaf Man and imagining what life would be like as a leaf! We had a lot of fun brainstorming and imagining ourselves as fall leaves. We created and wrote a story about our life as a leaf! These were so fun to read and now we have them “falling” in our room. Take a look at a few examples of our creativity!

This week we started Star Student!  Kashvi is our first Star Student and we loved learning more about her this morning as she presented her poster. Afterwards, we asked questions about things we were curious about. We can’t wait to learn more about her throughout the week! Don’t forget to find your star student week. There is a schedule under classroom information for you to check out! I wonder what book Kashvi will share will us this week?!

Buddy Read

Buddy Read

Today we did a practice “Buddy Read”. We partnered up with a friend and found a comfortable spot in the room where we sat side by side and took turns rereading the story The Mixed Up Chameleon.  Afterwards, we talked about our favorite part in the story. We started creating our own “mixed up chameleons”. We can’t wait to see them when they are done!

Mind Movies

Mind Movies

This week  our reading skill is visualization. Today we read the story Night in the Country several times. First, without looking at the pictures. This kids were able to close their eyes and create a picture or “mind movie” in their heads as they listened. When we read it a second time they were able to draw their thoughts and pictures in their “thought bubbles” Afterwards we shared our pictures and checked out the pictures in the book. We will continue to focus on this skill all week! This is a fun one and helps us to be better readers!

First Week Of School!

First Week Of School!

We had a great first week in second grade! We spent a lot of time reviewing school/classroom rules and expectations. We also enjoyed getting to know each other better and reviewed ways of how to be good citizens. We read some great books like, First Day Jitters, How to Fill a BucketHarold and the Purple Crayon and Elmer. Each book allowing us to learn more about each other, express our personalities and learn how to respect one another. Below are some pictures of us working in teams to share with the class how to be good citizens in various places like school, home, sports, car and playground.
