Math Matters

graduation 007Math is easy and fun to incorporate into everyday life! Just think of all the ways you use math daily with clocks, calendars, money, weather, cooking, and LEGOs. The easiest way to teach math is talk about it out loud and ask your child questions. For example, This cake bakes for 30 minutes — look at the clock, count by 5’s — what time will it be done? Or your new pencil cost $1.00 — how many quarters are in a dollar? Or This macaroni and cheese needs 1 cup of milk, 2 cups of cheddar cheese, and a tablespoon of butter — ask your child to help measure. Math can be a fun family experience!

KINDERGARTEN Math Games and Songs:

For older siblings in grades 3-5, make sure your child has mastered their multiplication facts. Drill and memorization with quick recall provides a strong foundation for multi-digit multiplication, long division, and fractions.  Check out Mrs. Grossman’s tutorials on how to work on math concepts like elapsed time, fractions, and long division at  Flip The Classroom.
