May 13 – 17, 2019

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms!  You are amazing!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the special treatment and appreciation last week!  It was an awesome week!  I truly love your children!  They bless me everyday in so many ways!  🙂

The students did an amazing job on the Science SOL!  I am so proud of their hard work!  They are beyond amazing!!  🙂

The Reading SOL is Monday, May 13th and Tuesday, May 14th.  Please be sure that your student has a good night’s sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and a stress-free morning so that they can show their very best on this test!  We have been working hard, and I know they are going to rock it!  Please be sure that your student arrives on time so that they are able to take this test in our classroom.  Thanks so much for your support with this!

Permission slips for the Fifth Grade Showcase will go home on Monday.  Please sign and return as soon as possible.

MATH

The Math SOL test will be given on Monday. May 20th and Tuesday, May 21st.  We will be in full review mode in class with station work, Eye Openers, whole group instruction, team games, Kahoots, EdPuzzle, and strategy reminders.  The homework assigned is crucial.  I want the students to use their homework time as an effective study/review time.  Therefore, the homework assignments need to be completed accurately.  Students who don’t complete homework or don’t complete it accurately will be asked to complete it during their free time each day.  Again, if your student has questions regarding a skill on homework or one that they just need reinforcement with, they need to contact me, either through email or my home phone.  We are talking a lot about this class.  We are going to do an amazing job on the SOL test!

LANGUAGE ARTS

We will continue reading our novel study this week.  There will be Word Trek this week.  We will work with a variety of skills as well as word puzzles and skill based games.

SCIENCE
The students will share their Review Kahoots with another partner team this week.  They have worked hard on these and are super excited to share them!  We will also start designing experiments around old wives’ tales.  The students will pick and old wives’ tale then experiment to see if it is a true old wives’ tale (oxymoron?) or an old fashioned trick that works.  This is always a fun activity.

SOCIAL STUDIES

As we continue our study of the West Region, the students are also practicing the capitals of all 50 states.  There will be a final quiz at the end that involves just matching the state with the capital not with an actual location, like a quick check quiz.  The West Region Quick Check Quiz will be given on Thursday, May 16th.  The students will also begin a West Region pamphlet this week that covers all things west.
