May 6 – 10, 2019

Our first SOL test is Science on Monday, May 6th.  It is important that your student arrive at school on time to ensure that they will take this test with us in the classroom.  Please be sure your student has a good night’s rest, a nutritious breakfast, and a stress-free morning.  They have been working hard, and I am certain that they are going to do an amazing job!  Thanks so much for your support!  🙂

We will start an ABC Countdown to the end of the year this week.  Your student will receive a calendar of events based a letter.  Each day will have a “special” event or activity.  🙂

MATH

In Math, we will  continue to review.  Again, homework will cover a variety of skills and should be completed with accuracy in  mind.  I am encouraging the students to take their notebooks home each night to be sure that they have the information they need to complete assignments correctly.  If they still need assistance, please encourage your student to call me at home or send me an email.  They should have my home phone number in their agenda.  If they get my voice mail, they need to leave a message so that I can call them back.  I am totally ok with assisting them over the phone.  It usually only takes a minute or two.  Thanks so much for your support with this.  Weekly Math (orange Sunshine Math) is due Thursday, May 9th.

LANGUAGE ARTS

The Reading SOL will be given on Monday, May 13th and Tuesday, May 14th.  We will be working hard to prepare!  The focus this week is all reading comprehension skills!  We will be using a variety of reading activities to practice as many skills as possible!   Careful completion of homework is extremely important this week.  Please encourage a quiet place where your student can concentrate when completing homework.  Thanks so much for your support with this!  We will also continue reading The Phantom Tollbooth.  We will have Word Trek this week.

SCIENCE

We will take the Science SOL on Monday, May 7th.  The students are also working on Year in Review Kahoot with a partner.  We will play these this week!   Later in the week we will work on a fun project called Bioglyphs.  The students will use their personal information to make a glyph using a face.  These are super cute!  Then they will use the key to identify their classmates.

SOCIAL STUDIES

The Southwest Region test will be given on Tuesday, May 7th.  Your student has notes in the notebooks and a study guide to help prepare for this test.  They have been working hard on their Southwest foldables!  They are looking great!  Next, we will explore the West Region.
