April 29 – May 3, 2019

Holy mackerel!  I can’t believe we are heading into May already!  We are in the mad dash towards the end of the year!  The students are going to be really working hard these next couple of weeks to prepare for and take the SOL tests.  Please help me by reminding them that coming to school prepared to do their best, work hard, and have fun is the priority.  Correctly completed homework is also an important component of finishing off the year well.  These kids can really knock it out of the park with the SOL tests if they feel confident, prepared, and happy!  I have complete faith in them!  🙂

What an amazing Field Day!  Thanks so much to Mrs. Lucas and all of the parent and student volunteers!  We could not have done it without you!  🙂

Please make sure your child is studying for their final PE test next week.  They have had the PE review packet for a few weeks, but here is a copy in case they can’t find theirs.  PE review   Thanks for supporting the Health and PE program at Glen Allen.

MATH

The Measurement Test will be given on Monday, April 29th.  This is a change from last week.  Your student has lots of notes in their notebook to help them prepare for this test.  We will continue reviewing everything we have learned this year for the next week.  Homework is a must.  I will be encouraging your students to take their math notebooks everyday to assist with correctly completing homework.  I am also talking a lot about connecting with me whether during school or after with questions about skills or concepts they are struggling with.  We will not have Weekly Math this week.

LANGUAGE ARTS

We are loving The Phantom Tollbooth!  They are laughing out loud as we read!  This week we will focus on author’s purpose, summarizing, idioms, nonfiction passages, and context clues.  We will have Word Trek this week!  The Reading SOL is Monday and Tuesday, May 13th and 14th.  Your student can use the resources on the blog to help prepare for this assessment.  Thanks so much for your support at home!

SCIENCE

The Science SOL is Monday, May 6th.  We have 5 school days to get ready and we are taking advantage of every minute we can at school.  The students are working on their placemats and they are looking great!  These are due on Wednesday, May 1st.  We have spent a lot of time on this in class.  Depending on your student’s use of time, they may or may not need to bring it home to work on.  Please know that there has been lots and lots of time to work on it in class.  Our review this week will be fun-filled!  The students will play review games, make their own Kahoot with a partner, and work on their placemat.  There will also be eye openers, homework, and graded assignments.  There will be a scientific method quiz on Tuesday, April 30th.  I will be reminding the students to take their science notebooks with them each afternoon.  Please encourage them to review using this blog as well as complete their homework using their notes.  They are going to do an amazing job on the Science SOL!
