6The information and links below may be helpful for 5th grade students and their families as they prepare for starting middle school next year! Most Chamberlayne students are zoned for either Brookland Middle School or Wilder Middle School. Chamberlayne students who are accepted into the IB program and choose to participate in it will attend the IB program at Fairfield Middle School.
School Counselors from Brookland and Wilder come to Chamberlayne to speak to 5th graders zoned for their schools. For the 2016-2017 school year, these visits are Wednesday, January 4th (Brookland) and Friday, January 13th (Wilder). Each school also hosts parent information nights for rising 6th grade families. This year, those are Tuesday, January 17th (Wilder) and Thursday, January 26th (Brookland). Both events are from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
At every HCPS middle school, there is a School Counseling TEAM instead of just one School Counselor. This means there will be even more support for your student as they enter this new phase of their education! Just like at the elementary school level, middle school School Counselors continue to assist every student with their academic, personal/social, and career needs and development; however, they also assist with scheduling courses and helping students balance academic courses with the plethora of extracurricular clubs and sports options that become available in middle school. Signing up for 6th grade courses is done online by parents during the PowerSchool Parent Portal Window. For 2016-2017, this window is January 30th – February 6, 2017. Information about how to do this has been sent home with every 5th grade student in Friday folders. However, your child’s teacher and I are here to help, so please reach out if you have questions!
