Week of September 24-28 & Reminders!

Hello Parents! Below is a snapshot of what we are learning this week in second grade- there is LOTS to learn!

What are we learning about this week?

Science – investigate and understand basic types, changes, and patterns of weather.

Math – Count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s to 120, count backward by 10’s from 120, even and odd numbers, identify patterns found in objects, pictures, and numbers.

Language Arts – read and demonstrate comprehension of fiction and nonfiction texts, use context clues and sentence structure to help with meaning and reading of unknown words.

Important dates!

Sept. 24 – Room Parent Meeting @ 6:30 in library

Sept. 25 – New family coffee in the cafeteria @ 8:30 in cafeteria

Sept. 28 – Scholastic Book Orders due/Room Parent Meeting @ 8:30 in library

Oct. 9 – Spirit Night at Chipotle 5-9

What a wonderful start!

These past three weeks of school have been filled with excitement and LOTS of learning! I have included specific skills/subject areas that were the focus of this week’s instruction in 2nd grade.

What are we learning this week?
Language Arts – comprehension, nouns, complete sentences

Math – skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s; odd/even numbers;  basic addition/subtraction facts

Social Studies –  quiz on symbols

Science – Weather

Upcoming dates…

Sept. 20th – Back to School Night 6:15

Important Reminders!
-Students can return their library books and get new books any day of the week!
-PE is on Mondays. Make sure your child wears athletic shoes on this day of the week.
-If you are sending lunch money to school, please put it in a sealed envelope with your child’s first and last name on it.
-Please check your child’s red communication folder daily.  Clear out completed/graded papers.  Check for homework sheets and any other important information that may require payment or a parent signature.  This folder goes to and from school/home each day.

 

I have enjoyed getting to know the students and learning with them as well! I look forward to another week at CTES. 🙂
