3.27-3.31

Hello everyone!

Here are the updates for the week:

Math: we’re continuing our geometry unit and getting into a fun project that the kids will do at school.  Please take another look at the sign up link http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0f44a9a623a7f94-geometry and see if there’s anything you would like to contribute!  We’ll be working on the project throughout the week so if there’s something you’d like to get but can’t get it into class by tomorrow, that’s fine!

Social studies: finishing up ancient Egypt and getting into ancient China.  Keep working on the projects and let me know if any questions come up!  On the guidelines there’s a mistake on the due date within the rubric-all due dates should read Friday, April 21st.

Language arts: compound words.

The kids have worked hard to get ready for our music performance this week!  Please have them wear their class tshirt (or a blue shirt), jeans, and comfortable shoes for both the day and night performances.  They will perform for the school at 9am, and then come back for the night performance.  Please drop them off at 6:30 Thursday night-they’ll come up to our room and practice a little before the performance starts at 7pm.  We’ll have a designated spot to meet afterward so you can pick them up.

Thanks for all you do and have a great week!

3.20-3.24

Hello everyone!

Here are the updates for the week:

Language arts: pronouns and using context clues to learn the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary.

Math: finishing up our time and money unit with a test tomorrow, and starting our next unit on geometry.

Social studies: starting a unit on ancient China and Egypt.  You’ll see a project guideline sheet come home tomorrow, please let me know if you have any questions!

We have a field trip coming up on Friday.  The kids will be able to come to and leave from school using their regular transportation, and they don’t have to arrive early that day as they did with our previous trip.  They do need to bring a lunch with them from home-we will get back past our time in the cafeteria and will be eating in our room.  They can bring their lunch in any container-it doesn’t have to be disposable.  Please plan on wearing our class tshirt or a blue shirt and comfortable walking shoes.

Have a great week!

3.13-3.17

Hello everyone!

Here are this week’s updates:

Language arts:  we’ll be working on contractions (they’re vs they are, etc).  It will be helpful for kids to look for these while they’re reading and be able to explain what two words were combined to make the contraction.

Math: continuing our unit on time.  We’ll have a combined money and time unit test next Tuesday the 21st.  Please continue to practice counting coins and telling time on an analog clock-they only need to know the time in five minute increments for this year.

Science: continuing our unit on magnets.  It’s a short, simple unit so we’ll be testing for it on Monday the 20th.

Have a great week and thanks for all your support at home!

3.6-3.10

Hello everyone!

Here are the updates for the week:

Math: starting a unit on time.  We’ll go up to telling time to the nearest 5 minutes, and it’s helpful to have the kids practice with an analog clock whenever possible!

Language arts:  homophones (words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings-pear, pair, etc) and sequencing events in a story.

Science: continuing our unit on matter with discussing changing states of matter.  Our unit test will be on Thursday, and then we’ll start another science unit on magnets.

Please see below for some volunteer information!

Thanks for all you do and have a great week!
