Monthly Archives: February 2017

Hello everyone!

Here are the updates for this week:

You’ll see that a field trip form went home today for our March 24th trip.  Please sign and return as soon as possible, and let me know if you have any questions.  The kids will come to school and leave at the regular times and can ride their busses, and they will need to bring a lunch that day.

Picture day is tomorrow!

There is a blue sheet in today’s papers for our half day lunch, please fill it out and return it tomorrow if possible.  The kids are welcome to bring a lunch or a big snack on Wednesday-we’ll eat at around 10am.

Math: continuing our money unit by comparing amounts of money.  We’ll take a quiz Friday.

Language arts: comparing and contrasting, suffixes.

Science: properties of matter (solids, liquids, gasses)

Hello everyone!  I hope you had a nice long weekend.  Here are this week’s updates:

Math: starting a unit on money-counting coins and comparing amounts up to 2.00.  You’ll see a packet using the “Hairy Money” strategy come home today.  It’s a helpful tool for kids who have trouble skip counting by different amounts-like going from 25 cent quarters to 10 cent dimes.  They do need to be able to skip count by 5’s fluently.  There will be a money quiz next Friday.

Social studies: finishing our Famous Americans unit with our test tomorrow, and then starting our next science unit on matter.

Language arts: prefixes and root words (heat-  reheat, preheat, etc)

Thanks for all you do and have a great week!
Katie Marsden

Hello everyone!  Report cards came home today-please sign and return them or the envelope as soon as possible.

Here are the updates for the week-

Math-continuing our unit on fractions with comparing fractions using pictures to help.  We won’t have a unit test but will be doing a fractions quiz on Thursday or Friday of this week.  After that, we’ll start our unit on money.

Language arts-inferencing/drawing conclusions while reading.  We’re also going to do a little work with subject verb agreement in sentences if we have enough time.

Social studies- continuing our famous Americans unit with Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Jackie Robinson.  We’ll have our unit test on Wednesday the 22nd.

We’ve got some fun activities planned for this week!  Tomorrow the kids will hand out valentines cards to each other-no need to bring a bag for collecting, we’ll make one here.  On Friday we’re having some fun Valentine’s Day stations as well- here’s the link if you’d like to volunteer or send materials:

Thanks for all you do and have a great week!
