Monthly Archives: January 2017

Hello everyone!

I hope the kids had a nice long weekend.  Here are the updates for the week-

Language Arts-we’ll be reviewing the ending sounds –ed in past tense verbs (jumped, traded, saved, etc).

Social studies- comparing the three tribes and regions we’ve learned about so far.  Our unit test will be on Tuesday the 7th.

Math-our math benchmark test will be divided up into 2 parts tomorrow and Wednesday.  There is a review packet that we did today that you should see in the daily folders this afternoon.  We’re also reviewing a bit for our addition and subtraction test this Friday.  You may not see the math notebooks come home unless the kids feel it’s necessary, there’s not a lot to “study” in there for this particular unit.  I would suggest practicing basic facts, word problems (with both exact numbers and estimates using rounding), and double digit problems.  I will be sending home a practice sheet Wednesday with some good sample problems to use.

Have a great week and thanks for all you do!

Hello everyone!  Here are this week’s updates.

Language arts: we’ll be talking about verbs in sentences and finishing up our reading benchmark test tomorrow.

Math: continuing our unit on double digit addition and subtraction with word problems and estimating sums and differences.  We’ll also do an addition and subtraction quiz on Friday, so keep practicing math facts this week!  Our unit test on adding, subtracting, and estimating will be on February 3rd.  Our math benchmark testing will occur on February 1st and 2nd of next week.  We’ll be doing some review material in class to prepare.

Social studies: continuing our unit on Native Americans with the Pueblo tribe of the Southwest.  Keep in mind that projects are due on Friday!  The kids will need to be ready to tell the class a bit about how they made their projects and the important facts about their tribe.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the project.

Friday is a half day, and our dismissal will be at 11:35.  A blue lunch intent form will be coming home tomorrow, please fill it out and return it so the cafeteria can gauge how much food to prepare for Friday.  We’ll have time for the kids to eat as early as about 10:30, so you could also just plan on a heavy snack instead if you’d prefer.

Thanks for all you do and have a great week!

Hello everyone!  Here are the updates for the week.

Math: continuing our unit on double digit addition and subtraction.  Keep practicing math facts at home to make this easier!  A unit test will be coming up soon (haven’t determined the day yet), keep an eye out for the date in the daily agendas.

Language arts: learning about nonfiction text features-table of contents, diagrams, index, etc).  We started up with word study again today.

Social studies: continuing our unit on Native Americans with the Lakota tribe of the Plains region.  Unit project due 1/27, test date TBD.

CoGat scores will be coming home today from the test we took in mid-November.  These letters will hopefully provide helpful information about how your child learns and processes information.

Thanks for all you do at home and have a great week!

Hello everyone!

I hope you enjoyed your snow days!  I just wanted to let you know that we’re holding off on official homework until next week, at which point we’ll also start up again with word study.  We’ll start talking about our next Native American tribe (the Lakota of the Plains) tomorrow and keep working on double digit addition and subtraction.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Hello everyone!  I hope you had a great winter break!

Here are the updates for the week.

Language arts-no word study this week as we are reassessing word study levels (so please disregard the word study options on the homework board and help your child pick a different activity to complete this week!).  Our grammar skill is adjectives and r-controlled vowels.

Math-double digit subtraction with and without regrouping.

Social studies-today we began a unit on Native Americans.  This week we’ll be covering the Powhatan Indians of the Eastern Woodlands.  You’ll see a project guideline sheet in today’s papers.  Please look over it and let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks and have a great week : )
