Tuesday September 25th Update

It was wonderful seeing many of you at Back to School Night last week.  We hope we were able to answer many of your questions and give you a better understanding of your child’s school day.

PEACE DAY Homework:  #KES Stands for Peace
On Friday, 9/21/18, our school celebrated International Peace Day by participating in a school wide assembly and recognized ways to be peaceful.  When we find our own sense of peace, then we can share it with others. At KES we show our support for peace by being kind, loving, compassionate, and empathetic with each other.  Each KES student will receive a copy of a picture of our entire school in the shape of a heart. Students were challenged by Mrs. Patterson to support peace in our school and community by sharing this picture with an individual person, a group of people or perhaps in a local community organization.  Students can write a note on the heart, color a picture, or just post the picture somewhere. The purpose of this activity is to encourage our students to think about ways to share peace within their community and to also advertise that KES students promote peace. We look forward to hearing how KES hearts have made a difference in our community.

Sept. 11, Tuesday Update

PHEW!  That was a fast first week of school.  For 5th grade, the first week is all about teaching routines, getting to know the students, and organizing ourselves for a great school year.

Tuesday Folders- are coming home today.  There are two sides to the folder.  The papers on the “Keep at Home” side need to  be removed from the folder.  The Weekly Work Habits and Behavior Chart is on the “Return to School” side.  You will need to sign the bottom of this form every week.  This chart is used to communicate with you and your child the behavior that needs to be improved.  Please have your child return the Tuesday Folder by Thursday of the same week. It the folder comes back to school late then your child will receive a “tally” for homework.

Moody Middle Information Session and Open House- information is coming home today with information and dates for 2 information sessions.  If you have any questions please contact the number on the flyer or Mrs. Shaia.

Back to School Night- our KES/PTA Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 13th; 6:30-8:00.  Parents will have the opportunity to hear from classroom teachers who will share  details regarding grade level curriculum, class expectations, and more.  This is an adult only event.

Outside Time- Mrs. Patterson would like us to remind our parents that KES students go out every day.  It is an expectation that they come to school prepared with appropriate shoes and clothing.  If you do not want your child to go outside due to illness or a health concern, then a doctor’s note should be provided indicating that the child has a serious health concern or an illness that does not allow him/her to be outside for the 30 minute recess time.

August 31, 2018

Welcome back!  We wanted to thank all the parents and students that came out to Open House yesterday.  We are so excited to go on this adventure in learning with all of you!

Reminders:

Orange Tuesday Folder- need to be returned with completed forms on Sept. 4th or as soon as possible. This includes the Student Health History form.

Back to School Night- is September 13th from 6:30 – 8 pm.  We hope to see many of you back again to learn all about 5th grade.

Moody Applications- will be going home on September 19th with interested students.  Mrs. Shaia will be talking to all 5th graders about this opportunity on September 18th.

Subscribe to the Blog- by subscribing to the blog you should get an email alert letting you know when the blog is updated.  We usually update the blog every Tuesday which is the same day the orange folders go home which is why we call them “Tuesday Folders”

Subscribe to the class Remind Account– this information is in the Tuesday Folder.  Our remind account is most useful for field trips and spirit day reminders.  We use this very sparingly and it is only used for announcements and not for two way communication.
