October 12th

What an interesting week with the weather!  I hope families enjoyed the extra time together and had an early start to the weekend.

The Patriotic Symbols test will be on Monday, Oct. 15th, since we missed it today.

Please look for a permission slip and online payment directions to come home on Monday.  Second grade will be taking a field trip in November to the VA Repertory Theatre (see the permission slip for additional details).  The due date for payment will be Wednesday, Oct. 24th.  Henrico County prefers online payment, but if you experience any difficulty a check made out to KES can be sent in as well.

At this time there is no further information about rescheduling the Fall Festival or extending the book fair.  I know Mrs. Patterson will keep up updated of any developments.

Have a great weekend!

What a fabulous day today we had celebrating the legacy of David A. Kaechele, the namesake of our amazing school!

The book fair begins next week and the Fall Festival takes place next Friday.  Check out the weekly update for more information regarding these events.

Please remember that the Young Scientists’ fee of $20.00 is due at this time.  Also, the Watershed Poster Project is due on Tuesday.

We are in need of a copy volunteer to help us out on Tuesdays or Wednesdays with making copies for our grade level.  If you are interested, please email your child’s teacher.

Thanks so much for all you do!

We have had another great week in second grade! This week we read many books and used text to self-connections to compare the stories to our lives. We also learned about the hundreds chart and worked to make repeating and growing patterns. We finished our unit on citizenship and took our very first social studies and spelling tests. Please note that since grades in Powerschool are not weighted, when there is a test, they are entered twice. Our weekly update with important upcoming dates and information about next week’s content is posted below.

We hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend!

What a great turn out we had for Back to School Night!  Thank you all for the support as we move forward in 2nd grade.  Please be sure to check out the weekly update for next week’s news!

PEACE DAY Homework:  #KES Stands for Peace
On Friday, 9/21/18, our school celebrated International Peace Day by participating in a school wide assembly and recognized ways to be peaceful.  When we find our own sense of peace, then we can share it with others. At KES we show our support for peace by being kind, loving, compassionate, and empathetic with each other.  Each KES student will receive a copy of a picture of our entire school in the shape of a heart. Students were challenged by Mrs. Patterson to support peace in our school and community by sharing this picture with an individual person, a group of people or perhaps in a local community organization.  Students can write a note on the heart, color a picture, or just post the picture somewhere. The purpose of this activity is to encourage our students to think about ways to share peace within their community and to also advertise that KES students promote peace. We look forward to hearing how KES hearts have made a difference in our community.

Good Afternoon,

We had another great week in second grade. We learned about reading stamina and how to pick good fit books. In math, we worked on ordinal numbers and practiced using them in our writing. We also talked about capitalization and what kind of words are supposed to start with a capital letter. In social studies, we learned about the importance of Labor Day and the famous American Cesar Chavez. Remember there is NO school tomorrow. On Monday, we will start sending home your children’s literacy notebook with their spelling list for the week. Please see the link below for out weekly update with important information for next week.

Hi Second Grade Families!

We have had a great first week in second grade! We did many fun activities to get to know each other and our classroom procedures. We made up our own classroom rules, learned what a bucket filler is, made a memory book, and made some new friends. Each week the second grade teachers will make a post on here so please be sure to check it over the weekend. Attached is a document giving important information for the upcoming week.

  • We eat snack everyday so please send a snack with your child if you would like them to have one.
  • If your child has a change of transportation, please send in a written note in their orange folder.

A message from the PTA:

Hi Kaechele Families,

Thank you for your participation in using Myschoolanywhere (MSA)! Our new app, MSA, allows users to schedule events and allows users to assign or schedule volunteer Signups! Please find the link below for a User’s Guide for those who are interested in volunteering, using the Signup portion of the app. The first item in the attached User’s Guide is a demo video. I suggest starting with it as it describes in detail, all the functions of Signup. Once Room Moms are determined, an overview will be provided.

As a reminder, please make sure to complete the required form for Volunteering at Kaechele, available through the link below, prior to signing up to volunteer  http://kaechele.henricoschools.us/volunteers/

Thanks for all you do!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend with your sweet kids!
