Good Afternoon,

We had another fun week in second grade! We practiced finding the main idea in reading, learned about double digit subtraction and used poems to help us solve problems, used commas in dates and in lists, finished up our unit on First Americans, and began our science unit on animal habitats and adaptations. Please see the link below for important dates and information about second grade.

We hope you have a great weekend! Stay warm!

Good Afternoon!
We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break! We have had an awesome week back at school! We used the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, why) to talk about stories that we read. Practiced abbreviating months, days, and names, finished up learning about the Lakota Indians and also learned about the Pueblo Indians. This week we began our math unit on double digit addition with and without regrouping. This is a difficult skill so reviewing at home would be very helpful! Please view the weekly update attached below for important dates and information about second grade!

We hope you have a great weekend!

Week of November 19th

We had a busy and rainy week in 2nd grade. We are looking forward to some sunshine this weekend. This past week we learned all about the lives of the Powhatan tribes, were rocking at rounding and estimating, and can re-tell narrative elements in a snap. Please make sure to take a peek at our newsletter attached below for important information for the upcoming short week.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Veterans that were able to attend our Veteran’s Day Assembly today. We are also grateful for the generous donations that were sent in the past few weeks.

Next week, we will dive into our unit and learn about the Powhatan tribe, rounding and estimating, explore narrative elements when reading, and work on the writing process.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

We had a busy week in second grade with a wonderful lesson from the Young Scientists about weathering and erosion, fun filled fall centers, and a great outing to the Virginia Repertory Theater to see Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who donated supplies and/or time to our fall centers and to our amazing chaperones who took time out of their busy schedules to go on an adventure to see Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

Please make sure to check out this weeks newsletter for valuable information for the upcoming week. Have a wonderful weekend.

We’ve had an amazing week learning and enhancing our 2nd grade skills!  The weekly update is full of important dates and news so please be sure to read it carefully.

We have Fall Fun Day on Wednesday, Oct. 31st and are so appreciative of all the volunteers sending in items and donating their time to help.  Special thanks to all the room parents for organizing the sign-ups on My School Anywhere!  We’d be lost without their support! If you signed up to send in an item, please send it in no later than Tuesday, Oct. 30th.  This will help us organize and prepare in advance for the event.

Our field trip to the Virginia Repertory Theatre is on Thursday, Nov. 1st.  Please remember to back a nut-free brown bag lunch labeled with your child’s name.  In addition, please have your child wear a KES shirt or teal/orange colors.  Chaperones, we will be in touch the first of the week with details for you.  We are looking forward to a wonderful trip!

What an interesting week with the weather!  I hope families enjoyed the extra time together and had an early start to the weekend.

The Patriotic Symbols test will be on Monday, Oct. 15th, since we missed it today.

Please look for a permission slip and online payment directions to come home on Monday.  Second grade will be taking a field trip in November to the VA Repertory Theatre (see the permission slip for additional details).  The due date for payment will be Wednesday, Oct. 24th.  Henrico County prefers online payment, but if you experience any difficulty a check made out to KES can be sent in as well.

At this time there is no further information about rescheduling the Fall Festival or extending the book fair.  I know Mrs. Patterson will keep up updated of any developments.

Have a great weekend!

What a fabulous day today we had celebrating the legacy of David A. Kaechele, the namesake of our amazing school!

The book fair begins next week and the Fall Festival takes place next Friday.  Check out the weekly update for more information regarding these events.

Please remember that the Young Scientists’ fee of $20.00 is due at this time.  Also, the Watershed Poster Project is due on Tuesday.

We are in need of a copy volunteer to help us out on Tuesdays or Wednesdays with making copies for our grade level.  If you are interested, please email your child’s teacher.

Thanks so much for all you do!
