We had a week filled with love here in 2nd grade! We had a fantastic time looking at each others decorated boxes and exchanging valentines with one another.
In class, we finished up summarizing, suffixes,magnets and probability and will move onto inferences, compound words, fractions and Famous Americans!

Hello First and Second Grade Families!
We are excited to welcome a very special author who will be visiting KES on February 28 and meeting with our first and second grade classes!
Kourtney Grant is a former KES teacher who has recently self-published a book entitled, Ice Cream, Hot Chocolate, and MORE! We are thrilled to welcome her back to Coyote Country share her new book and to speak to our students about the writing process, as well as her life now as an author. If you would like to order a copy of her book, you may do so at tinyurl.com/kgrantbook . If you would like to have your book signed by the author, please make sure to order early and send it in with a post-it note with your child’s name no later than February 28th. Please check with Mrs. Hyman if you have any questions.
We had a wonderful week filled with reading celebrations, probability, magnets, and prefixes! The children had a fabulous time representing their favorite books at the World Read Aloud Assembly.
Next week we will continue our unit on magnets and probability with fun games and experiments! We will build on our knowledge of prefixes and introduce suffixes and start our unit on summarizing!

We had a busy week of reviewing of the Native American tribes, estimating with double digit addition and mixed word problems, learning about verbs, and reading and writing different types of poetry!
Next week, is the World Read Aloud Olympics. You will receive more details from your child’s teacher. Each child may dress up or represent their gold, silver and bronze book choices. We can’t wait to see their creative ideas!
Please remember we are continuing to collect gently used coats, boots, and shoes through February 14th for the “Heat Up Henrico” collection drive as a part of our Random Acts of Kindness Month! In addition we are also collecting items for Youth Art Month in March. Please see the information in the Coyote Courier below.
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner please remember to decorate a shoe box with a lid that can be opened and their treat/card (no nuts). Please see the pink form sent home last week for specific details.
Good afternoon! What an interesting week with all the snow! The 1st and 2nd grade winter performance will be January 25th at 6:30. Students should arrive at 6:00 and report to their classrooms. Please see the weekly update for proper student attire. Have a wonderful weekend!
We finally made it back to school despite the snow! It was so nice to see all of the smiling faces return on Wednesday!
You might have noticed the song sheets in your child’s orange folder. These are the songs that will be performed on January 25th at the 1st and 2nd grade Winter Program. A flyer is coming home Tuesday with information about the program. We hope to see you there! 🙂
It has been a wonderful week! We had so much fun and learned A TON on our trip to the Science Museum!! We also learned about plural nouns, addition strategies, animal adaptations, some useful comprehension strategies. We are looking forward to some exciting events and spirit days next week! We learned about animal habitats, practiced equality and balancing equations and made nouns plural by following different rules. We are excited for these fun two weeks leading up to winter break.
