Healthy Schools, Healthy Virginia
I have some good news and some bad news! The bad news is that there is no longer a Jump Rope for Heart Program. The good news is that we are still going to be raising money for the American Heart Association through a new program called Healthy Schools, Healthy Virginia. This is a great opportunity for KES because we still get to raise money for others that need help with their hearts and we get to use some of the money we raise this year to go towards purchasing equipment that will help us learn more about our own hearts. This year half of the money we raise will go to the American Heart Association and the other half will go towards a class set of Polar OH1 optical heart rate sensors. These heart rate monitors will allow students to better understand how their heart rate relates to intensity levels. The sensors will also record students heart rate data throughout the year so they can track their progress and set goals for moderate to vigorous physical activity.
Our fundraising goal this year is $5000 and we will be collecting all donations online. You will receive a post card with all the instructions you will need to sign up for our school’s donation page. Students will receive a glow-in-the-dark wrist band just for creating an account. There are many thank you gifts that students can receive by collecting more donations.
One thing that will stay the same is our Family, Fun and Fitness Night. On Thursday, February 21st at 6:30 we will be having this event at Kaechele to celebrate physical activity and living heart healthy lives. We would love for your whole family to come out and participate in this event, which will end our Healthy Schools, Healthy Virginia Fundraiser. Thanks so much for considering to donate to the American Heart Association and to your school.
