Middle School Scheduling

Middle School Scheduling

It is the time of year when we begin the middle school scheduling process! Counselors from Brookland and Tuckahoe Middle School came to visit Johnson to talk with all 5th grade students about middle school scheduling.  In Henrico County, we will be using the POWERSCHOOL system for this process. If you need help with this process, I will be in the JES library on February 7th from 3:00-6:30 pm! 🙂

Kindness Month

Kindness Month

Dear Johnson Families!
I am excited to inform you that we will be celebrating kindness this month. January is going to be filled with ways for our jaguars to learn, explore, and practice kindness. Studies have indicated that promoting kindness in youth promotes self-confidence, optimism, leadership, and increased happiness! This coming week, students will be part of many exciting experiences.

January 8th -January 12th

Spirit Week! See handout for details.
Each student will receive a Random Act of Kindness (RAK) challenge board. The goal is for them to complete each act on the board and then turn in the board to their teacher. Each Jaguar who does so will have the opportunity to earn a PAT point for their class. For each act of kindness a child can fill out a heart with their name and what they did. (Student can continue throughout the month).

January 15th- January 19th
No Name Calling Week!
During this week students will be challenged to avoid negative name calling and explore the power of their words. We hope the effects will carry over even after the week has reached an end.

January 29th- February 2nd
Pennies for Patients: Coin Drive for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Jaguars will work together to make a difference in the fight against Leukemia. Each child will be invited to participate in a fundraiser to benefit LLS. This school-wide act of kindness will be appreciated by countless people.

All Month
Random Acts of Kindness Board and Kindness Poster Challenge
Students can create a poster that promotes kindness. Posters can be turned in to school counseling by February 9th. We will be selecting some to display in the Cafeteria after Kindness Month to remind us about the power of kindness.

Peace Squad

Peace Squad

Hello Jaguars!

We have an exciting new group here at Johnson! Our Peace Squad is made up of eight fifth grade students. The Peace Squad is a program that is designed to empower a group of strong and confident students to respond in appropriate ways to bullying behavior. They will help other students involved in bullying situations. Students in the Peace Squad are being trained to safely take action to help targets of bullying situations in the moment. They will also pledge to report bullying situations to staff in the school. Targets of bullying behavior will feel more confident, cared-for, and welcomed by their peers, reducing the harmful effects of bullying behavior on a target’s self-esteem. Thank you to Charlotte Geddy the School Counselor at Walker Upper Elementary School for helping us get this wonderful group started! Here is a picture of our Peace Squad in front of our Kindness Pledge!

What The Peace Squad Is Up To
-Practcing strategies to put a stop to bullying
-Helping students meet new friends on “Mix It Up” Lunch Day
-Creating a Kindness Anthem

Meet Johnson’s New Counselor!

Meet Johnson’s New Counselor!

My name is Ms.Schlichtcroll (Ms.S). I am thrilled to be joining the Johnson Family as your school counselor!

As Johnson’s Counselor, I will provide a developmental, comprehensive counseling program that addresses the academic, personal/social, and career development of all students. I will work with students in the classroom, individually, and in groups, for them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to reach their goals!

When I am not at Johnson, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and two dogs Paddington and Madeline. I love traveling, reading, professional development, arts & crafts, and cheering on the Crimson Tide!

I look forward to working with each of your children this school year!

Please take time to look around the site to learn more about the school counseling program and the services it provides.
