Welcome to another exciting school year of  learning, fun, LEADERSHIP and Super Cubs!

My name is Joannie Reece and I am Colonial Trail’s full time School Counselor!

I graduated from VA Tech in 1988 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and from VCU in 2006 with a Master’s of Education degree in Counselor Education.  Prior to receiving my M.Ed., I worked in Human Resources for Sprint in Northern VA and stayed at home to raise my three children, who are now almost grown! All three of my children graduated from Godwin High School.  My daughter is a 2017 James Madison University graduate.  She is working in the Northern Virginia area in Graphic Design, her passion. My identical twin sons will graduate from Virginia Tech this spring with degrees in Computer Science.  They are having a wonderful time participating in the Marching Virginian’s band!

This is the beginning of my 11th year with Henrico County as School Counselor. I started my School Counseling career as the part-time Counselor between Laburnum and Highland Springs Elementary Schools. I then moved to work  part-time between Colonial Trail and Shady Grove.  This is my 9th year as CTES’ full time counselor.  And CT truly is a great place to be!! I love it here!

When I’m not working, I love spending time with my friends and family.   I love music, dancing, outdoor activities like hiking and biking, as well as reading and gardening.

I’m very excited to welcome Megan LaMantia, School Counseling intern student from Liberty University!  She will be with us through the end of the school year.  She is already making great connections with our staff and students and is a wonderful resource for our school community!!

The mission of the CTES School Counseling program is to “Prepare today’s students to be tomorrow’s LEADERS”  and to  help ensure that your child’s educational experience is happy, productive, and safe!  I hope you’ll enjoy exploring this website. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by phone at (804) 364-0055 or email – jpreece@henrico.k12.va.us.
