Social Studies Resources

In fifth grade social studies we explore the big idea Where do I live?   Students will practice basic map skills and learn about geography, both locally and across the US.  Due to the extensive fifth grade science curriculum, social studies instruction will be implemented once a week and infused through cross-curricular reading and projects.  Students are responsible for mastering the location and capital of all 50 states, so be sure to start practicing early!

PACING:
First Quarter:
 Henrico History and Geography
Second Quarter: Map Skills & Geography of Southeastern US
Third Quarter: Geography of Northeastern, Southeastern, and Midwestern US
Fourth Quarter: 
Geography of Western, and Southwestern US
