Glance at a Golden Week 3.2-3.6

What a fun week we had celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Reading! Thank you to everyone who participated in Ms. Bauer’s fun reading challenges (Dr. Seuss reading bingo board/ design a Dr. Seuss bookmark) AND dressing up for our spirit days!

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- Our week began with a Dr. Seuss story read to us by a special guest reader from the company, EAB. We spent the remainder of the week working on drawing conclusions as we explored nonfiction texts. Students pulled evidence from the text along with what they already know to draw conclusions from articles on solids/liquids/gases and Famous Americans. Math- Our unit on telling time wrapped up with a fun “Scoot!” activity. Students were up and moving around the room reading and recording the times from the clocks posted on the wall. This was a great way to get us ready for our end of unit clock assessment. We then moved into our unit on using thermometers as a measurement tool. Students learned the key terms used when reading thermometers such as degreesFahrenheit, and Celsius. We also looked at how to read different types of thermometers.Social Studies- We had fun learning about Helen Keller this week as we created our names in braille! Students worked in groups to make braille dots using liquid glue, watched videos of Helen Keller learning sign language with Anne Sullivan, and created a time line showing the major events of Helen Keller’s life. Next week we will take a look into the life of Benjamin Franklin and work on creating a “Who Am I?” cartoon board to review all the Famous Americans we have learned this quarter.
