Glance at a Golden Week 2.17-2.21

Snow???? Where are you?Bitmoji ImageWell… there may not have been any snow this week, but that didn’t stop us from having fun!

On Monday, we spent the day creating and engineering our own “Biography Buddy”. Students worked in small groups to create a Famous American that we had recently study. They had to include 1 moveable part, at least 2 things that told us who their person was, AND they couldn’t use any words on their creation.I am so impressed with the creativity that was displayed during this project. We have proudly displayed our projects in the classroom and enjoy looking at them frequently. Check out our handy work below!

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- We began a new reading comprehension focus this week on drawing conclusions when reading fiction texts. Students draw conclusions (or infer) when they use clues from the text and what they already know to help enhance comprehension of the book’s meaning. Informational Passages Practice Analyze stories Background for Parents on Making Inferences/Drawing ConclusionsWriting- We had a heavy focus on the descriptive words used in different poems and how they give the reader a good visual. Students have spent the week writing and sharing their own poems incorporating as many descriptive words as possible.

Math- This week we began our unit on telling time. In 2nd grade, students are taught to tell time to 5 minute intervals on both digital and analog clocks. Head to these sites to help review this topic at home. Match Analog Clocks & Times Read Clocks & Write Times Telling Time Games Science- Another new unit began in Science this week as we started studying the 3 different states of matter. Students learn about solids, liquids, and gases, and how states of matter can change. Example: solid ice can turn into liquid water with heat, puddles of water can dry up and evaporate into a gas, etc. Be on the look out for a study guide that was attached to this week’s homework! Matter Video Matter Games
