Glance at a Golden Week 1.3-1.4

Bitmoji ImageHappy New Year and welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and had time to relax with family and friends! I certainly made the most of my break, but I was so excited to come back to you all…I missed you guys!

We sure did pack a lot in for such a SHORT week! There was a lot of learning with a little bit of fun sprinkled in. Our class trip to the Northside YMCA for our aquatics lesson was everything we had hoped for and more! We had a hands-on lesson to enrich Mr. Holscher’s aquatic safety unit in PE!  Students learned to float, throw a life preserver to save a friend, recover from a flipped boat, and more.  Thanks Mr. Holscher and the YMCA for providing this important experience!

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- We discussed the importance of understanding author’s choices when reading. Authors must make many decisions when creating a piece of writing, including why to write (purpose), what to include (elements), what to write (form and genre), and how to say it (word choice). Over the next two weeks we will be focusing particularly on author’s word choice and analyzing these words to better comprehend the author’s meaning.Writing- Students began working on the conclusion of their hamburger essays focused on their favorite place to eat. Next week we will edit our writing and finalize for a typed final copy!Social Studies- We explored the key land and water features in the Southeast region of the United States. We identified and described features such as the Atlantic Ocean, Coastal Plain, Everglades, and more. Students should study their map in their journals as they prepare for the end of unit test at the end of the quarter!Math & Science- Visit Miss Capano’s blog to read what students did in math and science this week!
