Brrrrr… what a wacky, snowy week!  I am grateful to defrost and return to a normal schedule!  I missed my kiddos!  Thank you for your support with our condensed schedule as we work to fit everything in before the holiday break.

MAPs testing… check!  This week, students in my and Capano’s class knocked out winter growth assessments.  Look for information about your child’s performance when we return from the holiday break.  Miss Capano and I will continue using this data to meet your child’s individual needs in reading and math!

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- We will begin discussing the importance of understanding author’s choices when reading. Authors must make many decisions when creating a piece of writing, including why to write (purpose), what to include (elements), what to write (form and genre), and how to say it (word choice). Over the next two weeks we will be focusing particularly on author’s word choice and analyzing these words to better comprehend the author’s meaning.

Writing- We will begin finalizing our multi-paragraph essay in which we discuss our favorite place to eat. When we return from break we will be editing and typing our final copies. I can’t wait to see the completed pieces!

Social StudiesStudents explored the effect of geography on the Southeast Region by using the Social Studies Alive! textbook. Students should continue practicing the states and capitals song and reviewing their study guide daily to prepare for the end of unit test that will come at the end of the quarter.

Math & Science–  Visit Miss Capano’s blog to read what students did in math and science this week!
