Glance at a Golden Week 12.3-12.7

We are taking NWEA MAPs math and reading assessments next Tuesday and Friday!  Please ensure your child is on time, well-rested, and ready to do his/her best.  Keep up the MobyMax practice at home to prepare!

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- Students explored narrative nonfiction as a unique style of nonfiction. This type of nonfiction is based on real people, places, and events while telling a story. This is a vital skill for understanding nonfiction text!

Writing- We continued working on their hamburger essays focused on their favorite place to eat. Next week we will wrap up our conclusion paragraph, edit our writing, and finalize for a typed final copy!Image result for kid typing clipart

Social Studies- We discussed the natural resources and significant landmarks of the Southeast Region. This region is full of land and water resources that provide many economic opportunities. Additionally, the students were familiar with many of the landmarks in the region, including Disney World, Myrtle Beach, Jamestown, and more! These landmarks are significant to this region.

NEWS & EVENTS:

  • Winter Party: We are looking forward to celebrating the season with a class party on December 19th!  Thank you to the families that volunteered to send in goodies!  You should have received an email from the PTO this week reminding you what you signed up for.  If you have any questions about the party, please reach out to PTO President Mrs. Cronin at evieloucronin@gmail.com.
  • Box Tops (REPOST): PTO is running a classroom – to – classroom contest for Box tops this year. Families submitting Box Tops need to put MY name on the Box Tops you are submitting. The class with the most box tops turned in by February 22 (one week before our March 1 submission) will win a Pizza Party from the PTO. You can help out by:
    1. Check the dates.  Expired box tops can make our entire submission get tossed out.
    2. Put them into groups of 50 in a ziploc baggie with the number 50 on the outside. Bonus Box Tops Certificates cannot go into the baggie of 50 or be attached to a collection sheet–send those separately.
    3. Send the baggie to school with Golden on the outside.

Time to break out the SNOW superstitions…I’ll definitely be wearing my jammies inside out! Let’s bring on the snow! Stay safe and warm this weekend!
