Glance at a Golden Week 11.26-11.30

Welcome back! I hope you all had a relaxing break full of family, friends, and FOOD! It’s hard to believe that in just a few short weeks, we’ll be back on another break!

Due to a miscommunication with our transportation department, we were unable to go on our YMCA aquatic lesson field trip. I am proud of how flexible our students were during this last minute change! We are working with the YMCA to reschedule our trip. Be on the look out for new information. We will send out notification once we have a date nailed down.

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- Students differentiated between fact and opinion. It is important for readers to understand whether the author of text is presenting facts or personal opinions about a given topic. Facts can be PROVEN  true or false, while opinions are personal beliefs that CANNOT be proven.

Additionally, the students learned a new set of suffixes. We worked on words the end with -ful, -less, and -ly. Students worked to break words down to their base word to understand the meaning of both the base word and how the suffix changes the meaning. We will continue to learn new prefixes and suffixes through out the year, while applying meaning of previously learned affixes. Be sure to continue to review old affixes as well.Writing- We continued working on their multi-paragraph essay. This week we completed the first two body paragraph in which we wrote about our first reason for liking our favorite place to eat and gave details about it. Next week we will learn the rules of commas and different ways that students can use commas to better their writing.

Social Studies-  Students explored the climate and economy of the Southeast region of the United States. We also took a quiz on the states in the region. Use the video to continue studying!Math & Science–  Visit Miss Capano’s blog to read what students did in math and science this week!

NEWS & EVENTS:

  • Box Tops: PTO is running a classroom – to – classroom contest for Box tops this year. Families submitting Box Tops need to put MY name on the Box Tops you are submitting. The class with the most box tops turned in by February 22 (one week before our March 1 submission) will win a Pizza Party from the PTO. You can help out by:
    1. Check the dates.  Expired box tops can make our entire submission get tossed out.
    2. Put them into groups of 50 in a ziploc baggie with the number 50 on the outside. Bonus Box Tops Certificates cannot go into the baggie of 50 or be attached to a collection sheet–send those separately.
    3. Send the baggie to school with Golden on the outside.
