Fifth Grade Students will have science instruction during each marking period. We will rotate science and social studies units throughout the year. During each unit of study we will have science every day for one hour until the unit is complete. We will be learning the 5th grade curriculum while reviewing the 4th grade curriculum in order to prepare for our Science SOL in May. Our science curriculum will include experiments that follow the scientific method, hands-on learning, Project Based-Learning (PBL) and writing. In June we will have our annual STEM night and work on science fair projects that focus on the scientific method.
There is a lot of content and students will need to have section of their binder designated for Science. It is important for students to be very organized and they will be responsible for keeping track of all their assignments. We will begin to learn and practice proper note taking and study skills this year to help students progress to independent learners. It is important to keep all notes from all marking periods until the end of the year. We will use them for SOL review.
