Dear families,
It has been a very different week of learning in our class community this week. We have had a very small class all week due to student illness. I appreciate your support keeping students at home until they have been symptom free for 24 hours! Mrs. Duffy and I will work our hardest to help students catch up on work they missed in class as well as send home assignments that we feel they can complete independently.
We had an exciting end to our day! Mr. Pattie, Mr. Weldon, and Miss Brown got the 2-5 grades pumped up for our benchmark testing for the end of the semester with a rowdy (and loud) assembly. Please talk to your child about the importance of always trying their best on tests, taking their time, showing their thinking, and checking back over their work. In third grade semester benchmarks are given over two days to reflect how the students will take SOL tests in the spring.

Next week in reading we will be reviewing for our reading benchmark with the students will take on Thursday and Friday. The test is cumulative which means it covers all the reading concepts that the students have been taught in third grade. Moby Max is a great resource for reading comprehension practice at home! The students can read passages and practice answering questions about what they read. In writing we will learn about homophones and continue to work on our animal research papers. In Math we will practice multiplication and division facts for 0,1,2,5, and 10. We will also continue to practice elapsed time to support our students who missed the unit this week. In science we will complete our unit on matter. The students will have a test on matter on Tuesday, January 28.
