Thoughts on Spelling

This year, we did spelling a little differently…  What do you think?  Do you like it?  What do you think is easiest and what is hardest?

Please respond to these questions in complete sentences.  Then, write a sentence to tell us if you believe are a better speller now.

Classroom Author

Michael wrote a story at home and shared it with us at school.  Hope you enjoy as much we did!

Michael’s Shark Story

Hi, my name is Michael and this is my second story.  This is a story about three sharks.

Once upon a time, there were three sharks.  They were lost, cold and hungry.  Until one day…they saw a lot of food.  They didn’t know that the food was under a spell… a spell that would make them bad.  So, they started eating until they started feeling funny.  Then they began doing bad things like taking down ships, robbing under water banks, stealing cars  and many other terrible no good things.

One day, a kind shark wizard was walking down the street when he saw the bad sharks.  The kind shark wizard cast a spell of goodness on them.  They would be under a spell of goodness forever.   The day was then saved.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is Dylan and Nathan:  Martin Luther King, Jr was born on January 15, 1924.  In 1955, he went to school and got his doctorate degree, so he could be called Dr. King.  He is famous because he worked so that everybody would be equal through peaceful ways, like the march.  He also said a famous speech called “I have a dream.”  If he was not born and did not work for this cause, how would our lives be affected today?

Thurgood Marshall

This is Nick, Logan, and Shanequa.  We learned about Thurgood Marshall for our project.  Please comment on our post.

Like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall helped African Americans have equal rights and be treated fairly.  He worked as the first Supreme Court Judge.  He is famous for helping black and white school children go to the same school.  How did Thurgood Marshall help all people to be free?

Thomas Jefferson

Fables vs. fairy tales

Hi Ms. Jackson’s class!  I understand you’re working on learning about fables these days…I love  that you’re reading new and different kinds of stories :o )!!  Now, for a tricky question…do you know the difference between a fable and a fairy tale?  AND…do you know how to find both books in our library?  Which shelf would they be on?
