Learning Is Student Owned
Are students following a prescribed direction for what, how, and why they learn?
– Or –
Are learners empowered with voice in what they are learning, choice in how they are learning, and agency in why they are learning?
In Student Owned learning experiences, learners are agents of their own learning and have voice and choice in the learning process. They set goals as well as assess, monitor, and reflect on their progress.
Design Principles
Student Owned learning experiences entrust learners with making decisions about what, why, how, and with whom they learn.
- Agency: How do learners provide input on setting goals based on desired learning outcomes?
- Voice: To what degree does each learner have the opportunity to inform what they learn?
- Choice: What flexibility do learners have in selecting, monitoring, and changing their learning paths and products?
