How do we do this?

Deeper Learning Model

Deeper Learning is Henrico’s approach that puts the learner at the center. The core of the model is designed to foster learning experiences that promote learner agency and ask the learner to apply new knowledge in ways that empower them to master essential knowledge, skills, and attributes for learning and life. In this model, learning is:

Anytime, Anywhere

Learners seek answers to questions whenever they are curious. They possess the technology and mindset to learn actively at home, at school, and within the community.

Student Owned

Learners are agents of their own learning and have voice and choice in the learning process. They know how to set goals as well as assess, monitor, and reflect on their progress.

Authentic & Connected

Learners ask questions and explore solutions to problems that are important to them and their world. They work with peers and members of their communities to contribute toward outcomes that have an impact.

Community Supported

Learners understand the importance of relationships in their local, state, national, and global communities. They continuously refine the experience and attributes needed to solve complex problems and recognize future opportunities.

For Henrico to foster deeper learning environments, we must develop a curriculum that aligns with Henrico’s learning model and connects knowledge, skills, and dispositions in authentic ways. Click here to find out more information about our Deeper Learning Leader cohorts.

What does the HLP look like in practice?

The Henrico Learner Profile Progression  provides learners and learning facilitators with a structure for self-reflection and growth. It is the next iteration of Henrico’s Teaching Innovation Progression Chart and was designed to influence learner agency, inform instructional practice, shape culture, and support family and community as partners in learning.

Why Develop A Profile?

HLP Inspiration

– Develop Life Ready Learners

The rapidly changing workforce has expanded our understanding of what it means to provide every child with an education that prepares them for a full and productive life. Students today must compete in a global, knowledge-based, innovation-centered economy. Therefore, students must have opportunities to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions into deeper learning outcomes necessary to thrive in an increasingly diverse and global society. Because of this, Henrico developed a learner profile that would synthesize seemingly different frameworks into a common vision for all students. This includes; Middle School Transformation and STEAM, Teaching Innovation Progression Chart, Profile of a Virginia Graduate and College and Career Readiness.

Profile of A Virginia Graduate

Teaching Innovation Progression Chart

Developed in 2010, there was a need to update our learning model - The Teaching Innovation Progression Chart (TIP-C)

Henrico STEAM

Henrico STEAM was introduced in 2018 as a way to help transform learning through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
