Week of Jan. 22- Jan. 25

Hi Everyone! Here is a look forward to this week and what we will be covering in each subject:

Important Reminders:

Our Dancing Classrooms program has begun! We are very excited about it!! It will take place every Monday and Friday for 10 weeks.

There will be a Pocahontas VIP planning meeting at Pocahontas on Thursday January 24th.

The mid-year reading benchmark test will take place on January 23-24.

Friday, Jan. 25th marks the end of the 2nd 9 weeks.

Friday, Jan. 25th is an athletic wear spirit day.

Monday, Jan. 28th is a student holiday.

Parents may log onto PowerSchool to review teacher selected courses, and select an elective for middle school from Tuesday January 29 – Friday February 8th.

The mid-year math benchmark test will take place on January 30-31.

The mid-year science benchmark test will take place on Tuesday, February 5th.

Language Arts:

Students will continue working with novel studies this week. Students will receive and complete one reading rotation menu this week. It will be due Fri. morning.

We will begin working with Greek and Latin Roots Unit 1 this week. There will be a test next week.

Science: We will review the 4th grade unit of watersheds and resources. There will be a test next week.

Week of Jan. 15- Jan. 18

Hi Everyone! Here is a look forward to this week and what we will be covering in each subject:

Important Reminders:

Our 5th Grade Snow Show Performance will take place on Tuesday night (1/15). Students should arrive at their classrooms at 6:45. The show will begin at 7.

The PMS Curriculum Fair is scheduled for Thursday, January 17th from 5:30-7:00pm.

There will be a Pocahontas VIP planning meeting at Pocahontas right after the curriculum fair on January 17th, as well as Thursday January 24th.

Monday, Jan. 21 is a student holiday.

Hi Everyone! Here is a look forward to this week and what we will be covering in each subject:

Important Reminders:

Jingle Bell Jam is scheduled for the morning of Wed. Dec. 19th.

Our Winter Party is scheduled for the last hour of the school day on Wed. Dec. 19th.

Winter break begins on Thursday, Dec. 20th.

Our Dancing Classrooms program begins on January 4th. (Please be on the lookout for more info being sent home this Tuesday 12/18.)

Hi Everyone! Here is a look forward to this week and what we will be covering in each subject:

Important Reminders:

PMS Visit field trip forms are being sent home Monday. Pleases fill these out and return to school by next Wednesday.

Hi Everyone! Here is a look forward to this week and what we will be covering in each subject:

Important Reminders:

Report Cards went home on Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Please review the report card with your child, then sign and return the report card envelope.

Language Arts:

We will continue working on Text Structures and novel studies this week. There will be a text structures test on Monday (12/3) *This is a change.*. Students will receive and complete two reading rotation menus this week. The first one is due on Wednesday morning. The second one is due Friday morning.

Students will begin practicing with Wordly Wise Unit 5 vocabulary.

Science: We will continue reviewing the Animals and Ecosystems unit from 4th grade. There will be a test on Tuesday. From there, we will review the Weather unit from 4th grade.

Important Reminders:

Our School’s Veteran’s Day Assembly is scheduled for Monday (11/12) at 9am. All families are welcome to join. The Assembly will take place outside on the blacktop, so students are encouraged to bring a towel or blanket to sit on.

Language Arts:

Students will receive and complete two reading rotation menus this week. The first one is due on Wednesday morning. The second one is due next Monday morning.

Students will continue practicing with Wordly Wise Unit 4 vocabulary. There will be a test next Monday.

Science: We will continue learning about Oceans this week. There will be an Ocean Motions on Tuesday. There will be a unit test on Friday.

Week of Nov. 5- Nov. 11

Hi Everyone! Here is a look forward to this week and what we will be covering in each subject:

Important Reminders:

Collection for Blue Star Families: Short Pump Elementary has a tradition of collecting items to send to our troops overseas. We do this in collaboration with the Blue Star Families of Richmond, http://www.bluestarrichmond.org, a chapter of a national organization of families with loved ones who proudly serve our country. Each grade level is assigned specific items to collect. Our goal is to collect 200 of each item in order to complete 200 care packages for active duty military personnel in combat zones and various USO sites. 5th grade is assigned tuna/chicken in foil packages, crossword puzzle books, and playing cards. Students may bring in items October 29 – November 9.

Tuesday, Nov. 6th is a student holiday due to Election Day.

Week of Oct. 29- Nov. 2

Hi Everyone! Here is a look forward to this week and what we will be covering in each subject:

Important Reminders:

New HCPS Safety Lunch Policy: This year, HCPS has changed this policy to help make your child safer. Only adults who are on the child’s authorization for pick up list are allowed to eat with your children unless you have provided a written note to the school authorizing your permission. For example, Grandma, who’s from out of town, comes to visit your child and wants to eat lunch with him. The only way she can eat lunch with your child is if you have placed Grandma on the authorization for pick up or have written a note.
