Curriculum:  

MATH –

  • 4.2 Computation –  We have mastered long division.  We will spend the beginning of next week reviewing all computation  in preparation for the Computation unit test the following week.  The students will be testing on
    • addition and subtraction of numbers to the millions place,
    • multiplying 3 digit x 2 digit numbers,
    • long division with 3 digit dividends and quotients with remainders (not decimals),
    • estimation
    • word problems
  • Enrichment – Order of Operations

Language Arts – 

  • Vocabulary – we will build vocabulary several ways.
    • Word of the Week:  Students are asked to use infinitesimal  in written and spoken word.
    • Greek/Latin stems:  sol and helios (sun); and luna (moon)
    •  Fab Five words – arduous, effortless, exhilarated, orderly, parched.  (words are received on Wednesday and quizzed the following Wednesday)
    • Wordly Wise Lesson 8.  Quiz on Friday 11/30
  • Reading –
    • Skill – Making Inferences
    • Comprehension strategies – Cause and Effect
  • Writing –
    • Alien Stories
    • Editing

SCIENCE – 4.7  Solar System

We began our unit on the Solar System on Monday.  Students are required to know the planets in order of the distance from the sun (My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nachos) as well the the order of planets in size.  They will need to identify the 4 Terrestrial Planets, the 4 Giant Gas Planets and the asteroid belts that separates them.   This unit will last 1 week.  Next week we will begin SOL 4.8 the Earth, Sun, and Moon relationships.  A combined 4.7 and 4.8 test will be given in mid-December

FIRE SAFETY –

We have finished the in-class lessons.   Next week, on Tuesday 12/4, there will be a quiz on the information learned in class.  On Friday December 7,  students will practice escaping from the “Safety House”.
