This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will reviewing skills from this year through a scavenger hunt!

In Reading, we will sharing our restaurant projects & sampling each others’ House Special! Yum!

Thank you so much for the privilege of working with you & your children this year. We have made many memories along the way. I know they are so very prepared for 6th grade & they will just love it! I wish you all a wonderful summer filled with sweet memories. Happy Summer!

June 3rd-7th

This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will begin to look at 6/7 skills to be taught next year.

In Reading, we will be creating our own restaurant with our restaurant project.

In Writing, we will finalizing and practicing our speeches for the STEAM Wax Museum. 

In Geography, we will begin to study the West region of the US. We will look at the states & capitals, as well as, the land and water, culture, natural resources & products, and landmarks of this region.

May 20th-24th

This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will begin working on an end of year in-school math project.

In Reading, our mini lessons will focus on analyzing tall tales.

In Writing, we will continue researching for our STEAM Wax Museum project &  writing our essays/speeches. 

In Science, we will be spiral reviewing for our Science SOL test. Our 7th race card quiz will be on Tuesday, May 21st. The students get to borrow these for the week to prepare for their quiz on this 5th grade science review topic. The race cards must be returned on the quiz day. The students who earn a score of 80% or greater are rewarded with an additional 30 minutes of recess. We will be doing 7 review units between now & our science SOL test in May.

In Geography, we will begin to study the southwest region of the US. We will look at the states & capitals, as well as, the land and water of this region.

In Math, then we will begin our SOL review of all 5th grade content. We will be reviewing this week elapsed time, measuring & classifying angles and triangles, circles, metric measurements, decimal computation, computation & word problems, and perimeter, area, and volume.

In Reading, our mini lessons this week will focus on test preparations for different types of texts (informative, fable, announcements, and news articles). Our guided reading groups will be focused on working on each groups specific needs to prepare for the reading SOL test.

In Writing, our mini lessons this week will focus on hyphens. 

In Science, we will be reviewing sun/moon/Earth and the solar system from 4th grade. We will have a quiz on this on Thursday, May 2nd. Our 4th race card quiz will be on Tuesday, April 30th. The students get to borrow these for the week to prepare for their quiz on this 5th grade science review topic. The race cards must be returned on the quiz day. The students who earn a score of 80% or greater are rewarded with an additional 30 minutes of recess. We will be doing 7 review units between now & our science SOL test in May.

This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will be taking our Spring Math MAPS test on Tuesday, April 23rd and then we will begin our SOL review of all 5th grade content. We will be reviewing this week even/odd/prime/composite, decimals, fractions, and comparing & ordering fractions & decimals.

In Reading, we will be taking our Spring Reading MAPS test on Wednesday, April 24th. Our mini lessons this week will focus on fact & opinion, main idea & details, summarizing, & affixes/synonyms/antonyms & homophones. Our guided reading groups will be focused on working on each groups specific needs to prepare for spring reading MAPS test & SOL test.

In Writing, our mini lessons this week will focus on writing a persuasive essay. 

In Science, we will be reviewing sun/moon/Earth and the solar system from 4th grade. We will have a quiz on this on Tuesday, April 30th. Our 3rd race card quiz will be on Tuesday, April 23rd and our 4th race card quiz will be on Tuesday, April 30th. The students get to borrow these for the week to prepare for their quiz on this 5th grade science review topic. In Reading, our mini lessons this week will focus on dictionary skills. Our guided reading groups will be focused on working on each groups specific needs to prepare for spring reading MAPS testing.

In Writing, our mini lessons this week will focus on writing a “how to” essay & the HCPS Alternative writing assessment

In Science, we will be reviewing force & motion from 4th grade. We will have a quiz onn this on Friday, April 12th. Our 2nd race card quiz will be on Tuesday, March 16th. The students get to borrow these for the week to prepare for their quiz on this 5th grade science review topic. The race cards must be returned on the quiz day. The students who earn a score of 80% or greater are rewarded with an additional 30 minutes of recess. We will be doing 7 review units between now & our science SOL test in May.
