This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will begin our next unit on exponents & perfect squares. This will help lay a foundation for our next unit on order of operations. Our unit quiz on exponents & perfect squares on Friday, October 19th. 

In Reading, our mini lessons this week will focus on main idea & details. We will begin our small group guided reading/novel studies this week. We will also continue reading our class novel, Escaping the Giant WaveThis will connect with an upcoming unit in Science on plate tectonics. 

In Writing, our mini lessons this week will focus on synonyms/antonyms/homophones. Then we will begin our writing called Journey to the Center of the Earth. This will be a creative writing, but will also incorporate cross-curricular information, what we are learning in science with the layers of the Earth.

In Science, we will begin our next unit on the Earth’s structure & rocks. We will learn about the layers of the Earth, the composition of each layer, and plate tectonics. We will have a quiz on the layers of the Earth on Wednesday, October 17th.

October 8th-12th

Important Dates:

October 8th: No School- Columbus Day

October 10th: Young Scientists & Integer Project due (my math class)

October 11th: Integers Quiz (my math class) & Weather Quiz

October 12th: Donuts with Dads @ 7:30 and CTES Picture Day

This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will continue our unit on integers. We will compare & order integers and learn about absolute value of integers. Our integer project is due Wednesday, October 10th. Our unit quiz on integers will be on Thursday, October 11th. 

In Reading, our mini lessons this week will focus on context clues & multiple meaning words. We will continue build our stamina in Daily 5 while we finish Fountas & Pinnell testing to determine instructional reading level. We will also continue reading our class novel, Escaping the Giant WaveThis will connect with an upcoming unit in Science on plate tectonics. 

In Writing, our mini lessons this week will focus on double negatives as well as synonyms/antonyms/homophones.

In Science, we will conclude learning about our review unit of 4th grade weather. There will be a quiz on Wednesday, October 10th. Then we will begin our next unit on the Earth’s structure & rocks.

This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will conclude our unit on even/odd/prime/composite on Monday, October 1st with a quiz. Then we will begin our next unit, our 1st 6th grade unit, on integers. There will be a project information sheet going home on Wednesday with your child. Our integer project is due Wednesday, October 10th. Our unit quiz on integers will be on Thursday, October 11th. 

In Reading, our mini lessons this week will focus on the elements of plot. We will continue build our stamina in Daily 5 while we finish Fountas & Pinnell testing to determine instructional reading level. We will also continue reading our class novel, Escaping the Giant Wave. This will connect with an upcoming unit in Science on plate tectonics.

  1. For each student whose family creates an account on the PTA website, they will earn a homework pass. 
  2. First class in each grade level to get 100% of their parents to LOG IN and just CREATE ACCOUNT will receive a Popsicle party.3. First class to get 100% PTA Membership will get a pizza party!!

In Math, we will learn about even, odd, prime, and composite numbers. There will be a quiz on all computation on Monday, October 1st.

In Reading, we will continue learning about the Daily 5 structure for our Language Arts block. We will continue to build our read to self and work-on-writing stamina & build our muscle memory, and work on building our stamina & muscle memory for read to someone. We will also continue reading our class novel, Escaping the Giant WaveThis will connect with an upcoming unit in Science on plate tectonics. Our mini lessons this week will focus on making inferences. We will have a quiz on making inferences on Friday, September 28th.

In Writing, our mini lessons this week will focus on developing ideas in the writing process.

In Geography, we will learn about Henrico County & its economy, government, & school system. We will also learn about important historical locations in Henrico County. We will have our HCPS Unit open book test on Tuesday, September 25th.

This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will continue to practice computation. We will learn about multiplying 3-digit by 3-digit numbers, dividing with 1-digit and 2-digit divisors, and computation word problems with whole numbers. There will be a test on all computation on Friday, September 21st.

In Reading, we will continue learning about the Daily 5 structure for our Language Arts block. We will continue to build our read to self and work-on-writing stamina & build our muscle memory, and work on building our stamina & muscle memory for read to someone. We will also continue reading our class novel, Escaping the Giant Wave. This will connect with an upcoming unit in Science on plate tectonics. Our mini lessons this week will focus on making connections (text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world) and making/confirming/revising predictions while reading.

In Writing, our mini lessons this week will focus on sentence fragments & run-on sentences vs. complete sentences. 

In Geography, we will learn about Henrico County & its economy, government, & school system. We will also learn about important historical locations in Henrico County. We will have our HCPS Unit open book test on Tuesday, September 25th.
