May 8th: Reading SOL Part 2

May 10th: FINAL Race Card Quiz on Measurement in the Scientific Method.

May 15th: Math SOL Part 1

May 16th: Math SOL Part 2

This week we have been learning:

In Math, we will be reviewing for the SOL test. We will be reviewing measurement, fraction computation, order of operations, distributive property, probability, graphing/stem & leaf plots, mean/median/mode/range, patterns, & algebra! We are working HARD!

In Reading, we have made it to our “big days!” We will be taking both parts of our Reading SOL test on Monday, 5/7 & Tuesday, 5/8. I know they will do great!

In Writing/ Word Study, we will be given new word study & word trek words on Tuesday, 5/8. Please look for the open sort on 5/8 for correct information. The test on these will be on Friday, 5/18.

In Science, we will continue reviewing for the Science SOL test and we will take our LAST RACE CARD QUIZ!!! We will be reviewing force/motion, electricity/magnetism, plants, animals/habitats, & weather.

Race Cards: To help prepare for our Science SOL test that is quickly approaching (eek!), we will begin review all the 5th grade units through race cards. There will be given out for each student to borrow on a Friday & the quiz will be the next Thursday. This will serve 3 purposes: (1) it will help review the important vocabulary and facts for memorization to help prepare for the SOL test, (2) it will be grades for the (end of) 3rd 9 weeks & 4th 9 weeks for Science, & (3) the students who earn an 80% or better will earn extra recess on the Friday after their quiz!! A much needed break as we get into the SOL prep season for them to have another break from all their hard work & enjoy the beautiful warmer weather outside with their friends. The quizzes will be exactly what is on the cards with a word bank provided. The goal of these cards is to simply aid in memorizing all the vocabulary & facts for each 5th grade science unit. We will build on this in our in-class preparations to help them apply this information when answering SOL questions.
