I just wanted to write and tell you all that I miss you all a lot! It has been about 1.5 weeks and not being at Ridge everyday has been very weird for me! I wanted to check in with you all and see what you have been up to? Have you all done anything that you want to tell me about? Read any good books? Done and fun projects?
My family and I have been going on walks a lot and spending a lot of time outside when it is warm enough. I am about to start reading a new book, also.
I can’t wait to hear from you all. You can leave comments below and I’ll be able to read them.
Love you All-Mrs. R
I am so excited to start off another great year at Ridge with all my fellow super heroes! This year marks my 12th year at Ridge which means I know most all of you already. I have been eating lunch with all the new students and been making my rounds to each and every class to remind everyone of our NBA Rules. Here they are just in case you forgot!
1. We will not bully other students (bully=purposely hurt someone’s feelings or body repeatedly)
2. We will try to help other students who are bullied. (we stand up for our friends!)
3. We will include students who might be left out (excluding students repeatedly is a form of bullying)
4. We will tell our teachers when we see bullying behavior (through the bully box or a private conversation at recess)
If we do all of these rules we can make ridge an NBA School where NO BULLIES ARE ALLOWED!
I’ll be beginning my individual and group sessions in October and if you feel your child could benefit from any counseling services, please contact me at school, 673-3745 or ebrettig@Henrico.k12.va.us
The new system we are using for our course recommendations this year is called Power School and it involves a parent component that is online. Here is a video about it that might help you understand this process. More info is coming with step by step directions.
Gifted Identification Window (K, 2 and 4)
The window for gifted identification for kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grades is January 6th – January 24th.
More Information on the Gifted Identification process can be found on the HCPS website:
Please take a minute to review the “Gifted Identification” tab on this blog to read about the changes that have been made to the identification process. Of course, as always, if you have any questions, please call me at 673-3745.
I am excited to begin another great year at Ridge with you as the school counselor. I’ll see you on the first day of school!
Did you enjoy watching this video together? Check it out again!
Hero in the Hallway
Remember that you can be someone’s “hero” when you stand up for them!
I am amazed and over joyed with the response to THINK PINK Day! We had a sea of pink on Friday teachers and students included. We had pink nails, hair, ribbons, clothes, socks, shoelaces! The teachers had pink treats in the lounge. The teachers also participated in a “lap of hope” on Friday afterschool where we supported all those affected by breast cancer and then set free some pink balloons with special messages on them for our loved ones. It symbolized our hope for a cure in the future for those facing cancer now and those who might be affected in the future. What a day!
Mrs. Charlson’s class won the spirit contest with their pink shirts, decorations and head bands. Way to go! There were lots of other classes that did a great job like Miss Wyatt’s class, Miss Byrd’s class, and Mrs. Heflebower’s class! Good job!
The Gifted Identification Process for 2012-2013
Students are reviewed annually to determine gifted identification. Parents may request that their child be screened during the appropriate screening window.
October 1-31 – Grades 1, 3, and 5
January 1-31 – Grades K, 2, and 4
If you are interested in your child being screened, please complete the Parent Questionnaire found on the HCPS website (www.henrico.k12.va.us/Exceptional/Gifted) and contact Mrs. Rettig
This is just a reminder to everyone, now that the rules have been explained to you and you’ve been given lots of options on how to deal with bullies, if you choose to bully or not follow the rules there will be consequences. There is a standard letter that is being sent home for any student who bullies. Period. We don’t allow that here and if you choose to bully you will not get a warning. You will get a note home. If you have any questions, please leave me a comment or a note in my box. If are being bullied and are too shy to tell your teacher, leave me a comment, it will be private and I will help you through the situation without posting the comment for everyone to see.
If we all work together we can make Ridge an NBA school!
