My name is Mrs. Doyle, and I am a fourth grade teacher at Shady Grove Elementary. I am a native to Virginia, and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else! I received my undergraduate degree in Human Development from Virginia Tech in 2007, and I went on to get my master’s degree in elementary education from UVA in December 2008. I did my student teaching right here in 4th grade at Shady Grove! After earning my master’s degree, I became a long-term substitute during the spring of 2009, and I taught in kindergarten during the 2009-2010 school year. The next year, I returned to the 4th grade, and here I am today.
On a personal note, I got married to my high school sweetheart, Tim, in April 2009. As we are both Hokies, we love the fall football season (win or lose). You can find us back in Blacksburg for most weekends in the fall, cheering on our Hokies! We have also tried our hand at cooking and baking, so if you have any good recipes, I’d love to get them! When we are not watching football or in the kitchen, we are taking care of our lovable furball-of-a-cat, Toby, and our Duck Tolling Retriever puppy, Lucy. Your child will inevitably come home with many Toby and Lucy stories.
Each year in school has its own excitement and obstacles. My goal is to keep your child engaged, challenged, and instill a feeling of success. I can still remember how my fourth grade teacher pushed me academically, yet she also helped me to grow into a confident and interested student. She helped me realize that asking “Why?” was okay; if I was curious, she would help me find the answer. This is my goal for my students: ask questions, search for answers.
