Welcome to Kindergarten!
Dear Families,
I am so excited to welcome you all to Trevvett. Kindergarten is a time of many firsts for your little ones. I am happy to be a part of their educational journey. Having three grown children of my own, I still remember how I felt the day that each one of them entered kindergarten for the first time. It was an exciting time for our family. I was fortunate that my children we able to attend Trevvett with me. For that reason and many others, I have a special place in my heart for Trevvett. I will be reaching out to you very soon to set up a virtual conference to introduce myself to you and your child. I look forward to our year together. Please enjoy the remainder of your summer.

Weekly Update 3-13-20
Dear Families,
Starting Monday, March 16, Henrico County Public Schools will be closed for students for two full weeks of school (through Friday, March 27). Henrico County Public Schools will continue to assess the situation and decide later if we need to extend this period of closure. You will be notified as soon as possible of all changes.
Coming home in folders today we are including a Distance Learning Packet. Please complete this packet with your child over the next two-weeks. Any students that complete the assignments and return the packet when school reopens will earn TWO trips to the treasure chest!
Students also checked out additional library books today to use with their packet activities and have extra reading materials. Also, students will bring home their supply bags, a few sheets of white paper.
Every Kindergarten teacher reviewed the packet and expectations of its completion with students today. The packet contains four (4) assignments:
- – What’s the Weather? : Students will have FUN observing, investigating, and tracking the weather. Students will observe and identify daily weather conditions (sunny, rainy, cloudy, snowy, windy, warm, hot, cool, and cold); predict daily weather based on basic observable conditions (watch/check the weather forecast if possible); and, chart daily weather conditions.
- – Choice Board: These engaging family activities will help students continue actively learning in Reading/Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies while giving them an opportunity to choose their own learning experience.
- – Reading, Language Arts, and Writing: Again, students are able to choose activities that help them stay in a routine of reviewing solid and rigorous literacy skills. The charts and worksheets needed to complete some of the activities are included in the packet.
- – Math: Along with a 120 Chart, Ten Frames, and Digit Cards (the digit cards will need to be cut apart for some of the activities), students can cover many areas of number sense development by selecting activities that will help them practice and strengthen skills we have been working on in class.
We hope your family will use these two weeks to really dive into learning with your child. Enjoy this time together and make it fun! Take care of yourselves during this unpredictable time. We wish you exceptional health, positive learning experiences, and great family memories.

Weekly Update 3-6-20
Happy Friday!
We have just finished up another fun week in room #14. The students enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America this week. We also had to chance to listen to Mrs. Broudy and Mrs. Rhoden read a Dr. Seuss book each morning on the announcements. The children had fun predicting where Thing 1 and Thing 2 would be each day as they read to the class from different locations every morning. The students had a surprise today when my daughter, Taylor was able to come from North Carolina to read to them.

How did they solve it? We also reviewed digraphs ch, sh, th, and wh. We practiced finding sight words: over, away. In math this week, we worked on identifying and reading a given numeral up to 20 and constructing a corresponding set of objects. In science this week, we identified and described objects that sink or float.

Thanks to all of the parents who have signed up to help us chaperone our field trip to CMOR. I will send an email on Monday to let you know which parents will be able to ride the bus with us to the museum. I will pick the names out of a hat to make it fair. The remaining parents will have to drive behind the bus. Thanks so much for your understanding. Each class is only allowed three chaperones on the bus.
I hope everyone has a terrific weekend. Remember to set your clocks up an hour since Daylight Savings Time begins on Saturday night at midnight.

Weekly Update 2-28-20
Happy Friday!
What another fun week we have had in room #14! The students have been reading, writing, and counting. We even had a chance to learn about coding with Ms. Capano. Take a look at all of the fun and learning that is going on in our classroom.
This week we enjoyed listening to stories by Kevin Henkes. We worked really hard on explaining: Who were the important characters in the story? Where/When was the setting? What was the problem? How did they solve it? We also worked on the digraph wh. We practiced finding sight words: got, and into. In math this week, we worked on counting backwards from 10 to 0. In science, we enjoyed learning and discussing the three stages of matter. We even had soda floats for Fun Friday as a way to review the three phases of matter. The students loved making and eating these soda floats. A big thank you to Mr. Bond who was able to come and help us with our soda floats. Also, thanks to all of the parents who were able to send in supplies for our soda floats.

Weekly Update 2-21-20
Happy Friday!
We have just finished up another fun week in room #14. The students had a great time on Monday with our STEAM DAY activities. Thanks to all of the parents who were able to come out and help us with our stations. Please enjoy these pictures of our day.
This week we also enjoyed listening to non-fictional stories. We learned about Martin Luther King Jr, Jackie Robinson and Rosa Parks. We worked really hard on explaining: What do we know about this person? What do we wonder about this person? What did we learn? We also worked on the digraph th. We practiced finding sight words: down and went. In math this week, we counted by 10s to 100. In social studies, we enjoyed learning about Maggie Walker ad Arthur Ashe.

Weekly Update 2-14-20
Happy Friday! What a fun and exciting week we have had this week. The students enjoyed celebrating the 100th day of school on Thursday. Thanks for sending in your child’s 100 collection. I enjoyed seeing the children in their costumes for our celebration as well. The students had fun visiting the fourth grade’s African American Wax Museum on Thursday as well.
We also had a fun day on Friday with our Fun Friday snowmen that we made and our Valentine’s Day party. Thanks so much for all of the parents, grandparents, and volunteers who showed up to help us out. Also, a big thank you for all of the cards, candy, and gifts that I received today for Valentine’s Day. I really felt loved by you all! Thanks again for your kindness!

Weekly Update 2-7-20
Happy Friday! I am sure by now you have all heard that Mrs. Smith was sick this past week. Yes, I’m afraid I have been at home with the flu. I am happy to report that I am beginning to feel a bit better and hoping to be back at school on Monday. Thanks so much for being understanding about parent/teacher conferences having to be canceled due to my sickness. I am planning to have conferences next Thursday, February 13th at our same scheduled time slots.
Here’s what’s happening next week:
On Thursday, February 13, we will celebrate the “100th day of Kindergarten”. As part of our celebration, we are asking each student to make a collection of 100 things, such as 100 buttons, 100 pennies, 100 paper clips, 100 pompoms, etc. Be sure that the collection is of the same item. Use this opportunity to count the items with your child before sending them to school. You can also put them in groups of 10’s and count by 10’s to 100. Bring them in a zip lock back with your child’s name by February 12. *This will be part of our homework for the next 2 weeks!*
Students are also invited to dress like they are 100 years old on Thursday, February 13th. We can’t wait to see your costumes!
On Friday, February 14th, we will have a Valentine’s Exchange. If you would like your child to participate, please send in pre-addressed valentines to all of the students in our class with your child by Friday 2/14 at 8:00am. Students are permitted to attach *peanut-free* candy to their valentines if they wish. Students will receive a class list on Monday. We will also be celebrating our PAW Achievement Day with a special snowy activity and a sweet treat. There is a kindergarten grade level sign-up genius with items needed. If you would like to donate items for this event, just sign up by CLICKING HERE and send in items by Wednesday February 12th. We are excited to celebrate this special day with our friends! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Next week, the SCA is hosting a “Flower Sale” and delivering all flowers on Valentine’s Day! Pre-orders will be taken in the lobby on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until 7:50am. Money is due at the time of order, and flowers are $1 a piece. Flowers will be delivered Friday morning, Valentine’s Day! Send a carnation to a friend or staff member. The sale is open to everyone! Weekly Update 1-31-20
Dear Families,
Happy Friday! We had fun learning about animals that hibernate. Our class learned all about bears. Please enjoy watching our video called “All About Bear.”
In Language Arts, we read fictional stories about groundhogs and made connections with them. Does this text remind me of myself? Does this text remind me of another text? Does this story remind me of something that happens around the world? We also worked on the digraph /ch/. We practiced finding sight words: will, they, out. In Math this week, we worked on comparing and describing the lengths and heights of two objects as being longer/shorter and taller/shorter. In Science, we had a blast learning about shadows. The shadow puppet station was our favorite! We even predicted whether the groundhog will his shadow on Sunday, February 2nd. Stay tuned!
We finished up our week with Fun Friday! After reading the book called “Brownie the Groundhog and the February Fox,” the students enjoyed eating french toast sticks. These were a big hit with the kids.

Weekly Update 1-24-20
Dear Families,
Happy Friday!
This week we learned how to research. On Tuesday, we learned about different animals that hibernate. The students were asked: What do we already know about our hibernating animal? What else do we want to know? We decided that we wanted to learn more about groundhogs! We reviewed all of the sight words that we have learned this nine weeks. In math this week, we continued working hard on describing part-whole relationships for numbers up to 3. Social Studies, we learned about Martin Luther King Jr.
Today we had a surprise visitor. Miss Virginia came to our classroom. The students enjoyed having their picture made with her.
