Dear Families,
Fall is here!
We have had another great week! The children have adjusted and are following routines and rules of the classroom and school. They are eager to learn new letters, sounds, and sight words!
We have finished up the 5 senses and have talked a little about fall, although it doesn’t feel like it yet! Next week we will learn about APPLES and have many fun activities planned to do with apples. PLEASE send an APPLE to school on MONDAY!
We will continue sorting objects in math. We have sorted objects by color, size, and shape. The class was also sorted by boys and girls. Next week we will sort in other fun ways.
Monday, our half day, will also be our first STEAM day of the school year. Parent volunteers are invited to come help out with reading aloud, activities, and crafts from 8:00-9:30am. If you are able to volunteer your time, please let us know by filling out the STEAM Flyer that went home in daily folders. We are going to have fun with the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Students will listen to the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and engineer their own “trees”. We will also be creating a tree with the letters of our names, having a letter search and describing a real coconut using our 5 senses.. It will be lots of fun!
I sent home a flyer about Raz Kids today in your child’s folder. This program is a great way to help your child with his/her reading skills. We have just started using the program in class this week. On the form you will see your child’s log in information for you to use this program at home. The students are excited about this computer program. A great way to start with your child is to have them click on the letters and sounds first. Then you can have them access the Level A leveled readers. The program will read the stories to your child first and they can follow along. Then your child can try and read the story themselves. By the end of the school year, you will be amazed at their reading progress. I think that you will enjoy this program as much as your child. This program is a great tool, but listening to a parent or grandparent read from a book itself is very beneficial as well. Please continue to read to your child too.
The students will be bringing home homework for the first time the week of October 7th. You will find your child’s homework in their yellow Trevvett folder.
