Highlights for the week of 9/10/18-9/14/18

Welcome to Mrs. Cunningham’s Kindergarten Class! We are going to have fun this year  “Climbing to Higher Heights of Learning!!!!


****Please fill out all paperwork for your child and return it to school on Monday if you have not sent everything in so far. Please send in your child’s Blue communication folder everyday. Put all notes and lunch money in this folder only. ****

Dates to Remember:

9/10-Brown day in Kindergarten ! Wear something brown if you have it. Please don’t go out and buy anything!

9/11- Blue day in Kindergarten! Please send  in the sack I will provide with small items describing your child’s interests. I will send home a  letter explaining this.

9/12- Yellow day in Kindergarten!

9/13- Green day in Kindergarten!

9/14- Orange day in Kindergarten!

9/19- Half Day of School for students  –   Dismissal is at 11:15 AM-  Lunch is served

9/20 -CTES Back to School Night – For parents only-  more information to follow

HAPPY BIRTHDAY – Fen and Shashankh THIS MONTH !!!!!!!!

Reminder: Please send in a healthy snack daily for your child. Water bottles are permitted in the classroom. Please make sure the lids are on securely so they do not leak in your child’s backpack.  Also please make sure you label  their snack and  lunch  ( if you send it in)  so your child know the difference .

Themes of SEPTEMBER: All About Me, Rules/ Code of Conduct, Good Citizenship, Colors, Fall Season

Language Arts– We will   focus on  upper case and lower case alphabet recognition.  Also we will discuss the difference between a letter, a word and a sentence.  Please have your child practice writing their first name starting with an upper case letter and the rest of the letters  should be written in  lower case.

Sight words we will learn this week:   is, am, here           Please practice memorizing  and spelling these.

Math– We will learn how to sort objects by color, shape and size.

Social Studies- We will learn how to be a  good citizen and good friend.  We will continue to go over  rules to follow in our classroom as well as in our school.

“Star Student of the Week” -I will explain to the class what a ” Star Student”  is.  We will start this the week of 9/24/18.I  will explain this to you at Back to School Night.  Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster  explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.

I would like to invite any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students LOVE having their  family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class.
Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our classroom library.
If you can find a date that works for you, please sign up to be a Mystery Reader on this sign up genius  for the 2018-2019 school year!
There will be  many open dates to choose from throughout the year.
Remember this is a mystery so please don’t tell your child you are coming!! The children love to be  surprised!
