Language Arts– We will focus on letters “Pp, Gg” . We will learn their sounds along with how to write them. Upper case (Capital) and lower case alphabet recognition continues to be ongoing. Also we will discuss the difference between a letter, a word and a sentence. Please have your child practice writing their first name starting with a capital letter and the rest of the letters should be written in lower case. All letters are introduced briefly in the first 26 days. We will then go back and spend more time on each individually. PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) begins this week.

Math– We will continue to focus on Patterns: AB, AAB, ABB, ABC ( identifying , making them with manipulatives and coloring them) . We will also look around our environment and find them ! Patterns are everywhere!!! Students will identify “the core”, describe, extend, create repeating patterns.
Special thanks to Colin’s mom who came in to do a fun patterning lesson with us this week!!!
Science- Fall Season / Weather/ Pumpkins – Students will learn that changes occur over time and at different rates (fast/ slow- wks, months, years). Nature and humans can make changes over time ( weather, people- ht., wt., hair color, buildings- construction, demolition, plants and trees- plant, cut down)
We will do an experiment with pumpkins and determine whether they sink or float. We will do nonstandard measurement using unifix cubes to determine how tall our pumpkins are. We will also count the number of lines on our pumpkins!! Our culminating activity will be to wear pajamas and make pancakes , Yummmm!
“Star Student of the Week” -Samrat was our “Star Student” this past week. He made a beautiful poster! It was fun learning about Samrat’s family and all his interests!!. Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.
CALLING ALL MYSTERY READERS! PLEASE sign up to come in and read a story to the class. All your children are hoping you will come in!!!!!
Joanna set up the Sign up Genius for this, please sign up!!
I would like to invite any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students LOVE having their family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class.
Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our classroom library.
If you can find a date that works for you, please sign up to be a Mystery Reader on this sign up genius for the 2018-2019 school year!
There will be many open dates to choose from throughout the year.
Remember this is a mystery so please don’t tell your child you are coming!! The children love to be surprised!
