Highlights for week of 12/10/18-12/14/18

Reminder: Please send in a healthy snack daily for your child. Water bottles are permitted in the classroom. Please make sure the lids are on securely so they do not leak in your child’s backpack.  Also please make sure you label  their snack and  lunch  ( if you send it in)  so your child know the difference .

Language Arts– Upper case (Capital)  and lower case alphabet recognition continues to be ongoing.    Please have your child practice writing their first name starting with a capital letter and the rest of the letters  should be written in  lower case. All letters have been  introduced.

Sight words- We will  learn :  where  :  Please practice memorizing, spelling and writing  this.

We will learn how to write the numbers and use our “Number sense” to make these numbers in many  different ways:  numeral, number word, tally, ten frame, set,  name one more and one less than each number,  list the  combinations that equal the number of the day,  etc.

Social Studies– Traditions and Holidays Around the World continued

“Star Student of the Week” -Vimal was our   “Star Student” this past week .  He brought in a beautiful poster that he worked on very hard with her family! It was fun getting to learn about his family and his special interests.

Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster  explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.

CALLING ALL  MYSTERY READERS!  PLEASE sign up to come in and read a story to the class. All your children are hoping you will come in!!!!!

11/20- TURKEY TROT!!   KG 10:00-10:30 WILL BE RUNNING OR WALKING OUTSIDE AROUND THE SCHOOL’S CAMPUS WHILE BEING SUPERVISED. YOU ARE WELCOME TO CO ME AND PARTICIPATE WITH YOUR CHILD!! Please dress your child appropriately!

You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster  explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.

Patterns  are everywhere!!! Students will identify “the core”, describe, extend, create repeating patterns.

Special thanks to Colin’s mom who came in to do a fun patterning lesson with us this week!!!

Science- Fall Season /  Weather/ Pumpkins –   Students will learn that changes occur over time and at different rates (fast/ slow- wks, months, years). Nature and humans can make changes over time ( weather, people- ht., wt., hair color, buildings- construction, demolition, plants and trees- plant, cut down)

We will do an experiment with pumpkins  and determine whether they sink or float. We will do nonstandard measurement using unifix cubes to determine how tall our pumpkins are. We will also count the number of lines on our pumpkins!!   Our culminating activity will be to wear pajamas and make pancakes  , Yummmm!
