Highlights week of 6/11/18-6/15/18

Wow, I can’t believe this is the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!! Thank you so much for being very supportive parents. Your children have worked very hard and have progressed so much!!! Please have your child read and write daily over the summer. I will be sending home their Starfall Journals this week. They can continue to write at least a sentence or two daily about what they did that day. Please reemphasize a sentence starts with an upper case letter, there should be  spaces between words and a sentence must end with the correct punctuation. Please also encourage your child to use describing words in their sentences ( size, color, season , etc).

Boosterthon was a tremendous success! Thank you for all your donations! The children loved  all the excitement daily that Castle Quest brought!! There was a great turn out of families Friday evening for the Fun Run!!!

Please sign up to join the PTA!! There is a competition  between classes!! The class that has 100% of the parents sign up gets  a Popsicle Party!!! You children would LOVE this treat!!! See my PTA pg of this blog for more details!!! Thank you for your support!!!

Thank you to the parents who have sent in  items for our Treasure Chest and  from the Wish List . Feel free to send in little items for our Treasure Chest in case you are cleaning out !

**** Please send in your child’s red communication folder everyday. Put all notes and lunch money in this folder only. Also please send in a drink for your child if he/ she brought their lunch. *

Please read all pages of my blog.

Reminder: Please send in a healthy snack daily for your child.

Water bottles are permitted in the classroom. Please make sure the lids are on securely so they do not leak in your child’s backpack.  Also please make sure you label  their snack and  lunch  ( if you send it in)  so your child knows  the difference . Your  children are permitted to take their water bottles outside when it is very hot. Please put your child’s name on their water bottle.

Themes of June: Sink and Float, Insects, Summer Fun!!!!

Language Arts– Plays-  Various play parts will be given out to all students to practice. Friday everyone will do their play in front of the class with their classmates. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN DOING THIS LAST FRIDAY!!!! ASK YOUR CHILD ABOUT IT!

This week we will be working  on their Kindergarten Memory Book that will be a treasure when we are done!

Continue to encourage your child to  write  sentences beginning with an upper case letter, using spacing between words, spelling sight words correctly and using correct punctuation at the end of the sentence .  Please have your child practice writing their first and last names starting with an upper case letter and the rest of the letters  should be written in  lower case. Have your child write at least one sentence a day using sight words  starting on the left of the page and going to the right in a straight line.

Please practice memorizing  and spelling all sight words.  By now your child should know at least 50  sight words.  Please practice these daily so your child will not forget them.  The more sight words your child knows the easier it will be for him/ her in first grade.

Here is a list of  sight words we have on our Word Wall :

Themes of the month:  Spring , Plants and  Animal Life Cycles, Earth Day, Recycling

Language Arts–   This week we will begin studying the  S-Blends “st, sp, sm” which can be found at the beginning  of some  words. We will review the author’s and illustrator’s job and rhyming words continuously. Have your child write at least one sentence a day using sight words  starting on the left of the page and going to the right in a straight line.

Please practice memorizing  and spelling all sight words.  I am assessing all student’s  sight word knowledge on an ongoing basis. By now your child should know at least 30  sight words.  Please practice these daily so your child will not forget them.  By the end of the year, all Kindergarten children should be able to identify at least 50 sight words.

Here is a list of  sight words we have on our Word Wall that we have learned already:

A- a, am, at, and, an, are, away, all

B- brown, blue, black, be, big

C- can, come

D- do, dad, day, down

Math– Money continued- All students will need to identify a  penny, nickel, dime and quarter and tell their values. The students also need to identify how many pennies are equal to a nickel, dime and a  quarter.   Reminder : By the end of this  quarter your child should be able to count to 100, count by 10’s to 100 and count backwards from 10-0. They should be able to identify all numbers in random order to 20.
