Highlights for week of 6/10/19- 6/14/19

Welcome to Mrs. Cunningham’s Kindergarten Class! We are going to have fun this year  “Climbing to Higher Heights of Learning!!!! 

SPECIAL THANKS TO JOANNA  AND  HER MOM FOR HELPING  ME SERVE PIZZA AT THE KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM !!!!  I REALLY APPRECIATED THIS !!!!! THE KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM   WAS  SO MUCH FUN ! I HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT !

THANK YOU ALSO TO EVERYONE  WHO ATTENDED S.T.E.A.M. NIGHT ! IT  IS ALWAYS SO NICE TO SEE EVERYONE  ! YOUR CHILDREN WERE SO PROUD OF THEIR CREATIONS!!!

 

****I can’t believe this is the last week of school! The year went by  so fast, yet we learned so much!! Your children have worked very hard this year and have grown in so many ways!  It has been a  pleasure to teach your children and become a part of their lives. They definitely have become a very special part of my life!  I will miss each and everyone of them ! I wish you a very Happy Summer and  hope you have a relaxing time with your families! Thank you for all your kind words and support throughout the year.  It has been a privilege meeting and getting  to know you. ****

6/12- Weekend Wednesday- Wear your pajamas ( no slippers) .  Game Day in Room 112! Bring in a game         ( must fit in  backpack)  that you can teach to friends.

6/13- Tiki Thursday- Wear your favorite summer hat !

6/14- half day- Please have your child bring their lunch  if  you did not order a bag lunch for them.   Beach Day Friday- Wear your favorite beach outfit and flip flops!!!( No bathing suits) Bring a beach towel .   LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!:) 🙂   HAPPY SUMMER!!!! 🙂 

Reminder: Please send in a healthy snack daily for your child. Water bottles are permitted in the classroom. Please make sure the lids are on securely so they do not leak in your child’s backpack.  Also please make sure you label  their snack and  lunch  ( if you send it in)  so your child know the difference .

Language Arts  –    It is important to continue reviewing sight words daily to enable your child to read  on grade level. Comprehension is also an important part of being able to read on grade level. Ask your child questions about what he/she reads . Please have your child practice writing    short descriptive sentences by sounding out words. They should be able to write at least 3 sentences about one topic.   By the end of this 4th marking period, your child should know how to read at least 50 sight words to be on grade level.

Focus this week on   Summer Fun!!! We will be doing a lot of writing this week  .  Continue to  review short vowel sounds and introduce long vowel sounds. 

Have your children go into RAZ Kids ( which has been paid for by the PTA)  and practice reading stories and answering comprehension questions once they get to a certain level. I sent home letters with your child’s password  the first marking period.   If you misplaced this information just let me know.

Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster  explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.

CALLING ALL  MYSTERY READERS!  PLEASE sign up to come in and read a story to the class. All your children are hoping you will come in!!!!!  There will be no more Mystery Readers for this year. Thank you to all who have come!!

Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our class library.

All volunteers must have a volunteer form filled out and on file in the office 48 hours  before coming into the classroom. This also applies to Mystery Readers.

 THERE WILL BE A VIDEO STREAMING THAT NIGHT IN OUR CLASSROOM DURING THE STEAM  EXHIBIT.  THIS WILL HAVE PICTURES OF YOUR CHILDREN WORKING ON AND TELLING US ABOUT HOW THEY MADE THEIR PROJECT.  I WAS GOING TO SEND THIS TO EACH PARENT AFTER THE STEAM NIGHT IF YOU APPROVE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU APPROVE OF ME SENDING THIS VIDEO TO OUR CLASS PARENTS ONLY VIA EMAIL.  I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE PARENT SAY THEY APPROVE !!!!

Focus this week on   Plays continued – Everyone was  given a part in one of 5 plays. They already designed  their own  puppet characters and are  practicing  reading their lines at school. On Monday we will act out the plays in class for each other. This is always fun for everyone!!

Ask your child questions about what he/she reads . Please have your child practice writing  short descriptive sentences by sounding out words. They should be able to write at least 3 sentences about one topic.   By the end of this 4th marking period, your child should know how to read at least 50 sight words to be on grade level.

Please have your child  practice identifying all 4 coins, say their values and say the equivalent number of pennies the coin is worth.

Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster  explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.

I would like to invite any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students LOVE having their  family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class.
Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our classroom library.
If you can find a date that works for you, please sign up to be a Mystery Reader on this sign up genius  for the 2018-2019 school year!
There will be  many open dates to choose from throughout the year.
Remember this is a mystery so please don’t tell your child you are coming!! The children love to be  surprised!
