Themes of the month: Spring , Plants and Animal Life Cycles, Earth Day, Recycling
Language Arts– This week we will be studying L-Blends “bl, gl, cl, pl” which can be found at the beginning of some words. Continue to encourage your child to write sentences beginning with an upper case letter, using spacing between words, spelling sight words correctly and using correct punctuation at the end of the sentence . Please have your child practice writing their first and last names starting with an upper case letter and the rest of the letters should be written in lower case. We will review the author’s and illustrator’s job and rhyming words continuously. Have your child write at least one sentence a day using sight words starting on the left of the page and going to the right in a straight line.
Please practice memorizing and spelling all sight words. I am assessing all student’s sight word knowledge on an ongoing basis. By now your child should know at least 40 sight words. Please practice these daily so your child will not forget them. By the end of the year, all Kindergarten children should be able to identify at least 50 sight words. The more sight words your child knows the easier it will be for him/ her in first grade.
Here is a list of sight words we have on our Word Wall that we have learned already:
A- a, am, at, and, an, are, away, all
B- brown, blue, black, be, big
C- can, come
D- do, dad, day, down
F- from, fun
G- green, go, got, grow
H- here, he, have, happy, her, home

T- to, the, they, this, that, there
W- white, we, where, will, when, went, with, who, what, why
Y- yellow, you, your
Please review these and the other words on the lists I have sent home to you.
Math–Addition continued – The student will model and solve single-step story and picture problems with sums up to 10 . Reminder : By the end of this last quarter your child should be able to count to 100, count by 10’s to 100 and count backwards from 10-0. They should be able to identify all numbers in random order to 20. It would be advantageous for your child to practice writing numbers to 30 or higher. All students will need to identify a penny, nickel, dime and quarter and tell their values. The students also need to identify how many pennies are equal to a nickel, dime and a quarter. All students should know the days of the week and the months of the year by now due to the fact we do Calendar everyday.

“Star Student of the Week” – Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photograph to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. CALLING ALL MYSTERY READERS!
I would like to invite any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students LOVE having their family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class.
Mystery Readers will visit us Tuesdays at 10:15-10:35 am on specified weeks.
Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our classroom library.
If you can find a date that works for you, please sign up to be a Mystery Reader on this sign up genius for the 2017-2018 school year!
There are many open dates to choose from throughout the year.
Remember this is a mystery so please don’t tell your child you are coming!! The children love to be surprised!
