***** The Field Trip was changed to  Thursday , May 2nd . Please send in a big snack for your child on  this day . We will eat a snack around 10:10  and depart for Swift Creek  Theater at 10:45. The play will begin at 12:00 . We will  then bring back a boxed lunch ( pizza)  from the theater. There will not be enough time to eat lunch there. We will eat the  boxed  lunch (pizza) back at school around 1:30.  Please have your child wear his/her class T -shirt. *****

Reminder: Please send in a healthy snack daily for your child. Water bottles are permitted in the classroom. Please make sure the lids are on securely so they do not leak in your child’s backpack.  Also please make sure you label  their snack and  lunch  ( if you send it in)  so your child know the difference .

Language Arts  –    It is important to continue reviewing sight words daily to enable your child to read  on grade level. Comprehension is also an important part of being able to read on grade level. Ask your child questions about what he/she reads . Please have your child practice writing  short descriptive sentences by sounding out words. They should be able to write at least 3 sentences about one topic.   By the end of this 4th marking period, your child should know how to read at least 50 sight words to be on grade level.

Focus this week on   S Blends continued  ( sn, sw, sl ) 

Have your children go into RAZ Kids ( which has been paid for by the PTA)  and practice reading stories and answering comprehension questions once they get to a certain level. I sent home letters with your child’s password  the first marking period.   If you misplaced this information just let me know.

Math–  Addition  continued- Students will use problem solving, mathematical communication, mathematical reasoning, connections and representations to model and solve various types of story and  picture problems using 10 or fewer concrete objects.

Students should be able to count to 100 at this point in time.

Science- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle  / Earth Day

Star Student

Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster  explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.

CALLING ALL  MYSTERY READERS!  PLEASE sign up to come in and read a story to the class. All your children are hoping you will come in!!!!!

Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our class library.

****Henrico County Schools would like to hear from you.  How are we doing?  Tell us about your perspectives and experiences, so that we may improve and make important decisions about the future.

On March 11, you will receive an email from HCPS that contains a survey we’d like for you to take.  It will be available from March 11 – 29.  It will take 15 – 20 minutes to complete.

Students in grade 5 – 12 are also asked to complete the survey.  Parents will have the needed link to preview the student survey.  They may then decide if they’d like for their child to participate or if they’d like to submit an opt-out form.  These forms will come home the week of February 25.****

Language Arts  –    It is important to continue reviewing sight words daily to enable your child to read  on grade level. Comprehension is also an important part of being able to read on grade level. Ask your child questions about what he/she reads . Please have your child practice writing their first and their last  names correctly and short sentences by sounding out words.  By the end of this 3rd marking period, your child should know how to read at least 28-32 sight words to be on grade level.

Focus this week on  Digraph “sh” and St. Patrick’s Day

Have your children go into RAZ Kids ( which has been paid for by the PTA)  and practice reading stories and answering comprehension questions once they get to a certain level. Math–  Measurement- Time and Temperature continued             100th day of school on Thursday

The measurement tools we use to determine time are  clocks and calendars. The measurement tool we use to determine temperature is a thermometer.

We have 19 students  , 11 boys and 8 girls. Many are available at the Dollar Store , Walmart and Target.

  • Please return the Valentine photos that were sent home from Strawbridge if you do not want to buy them. The Spring class picture and individuals will be taken on March 14th.

Math–  Measurement- Time and Temperature

The measurement tools we use to determine time are  clocks and calendars. The measurement tool we use to determine temperature is a thermometer.

Social Studies- Black History Month   and Famous Americans ( George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Betsy Ross) and President’s Day  ( Washington, Lincoln, Trump)

“Star Student of the Week – Colin  was our “Star Student” this past week. It was fun learning about his family and all his interests.  He put a lot of time into his beautiful poster he brought in!

Please help your child to fill out and color the poster when it is their turn. You can also send in photographs to hang on the poster . A letter will accompany the poster  explaining what is required. Please send this completed poster in the following Monday so your child can share it with the class. I will display it in our classroom and return it home on Friday.

CALLING ALL  MYSTERY READERS!  PLEASE sign up to come in and read a story to the class. All your children are hoping you will come in!!!!!

I would like to invite any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students LOVE having their  family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class.
Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our classroom library.
If you can find a date that works for you, please sign up to be a Mystery Reader on this sign up genius  for the 2018-2019 school year!
There will be  many open dates to choose from throughout the year.
Remember this is a mystery so please don’t tell your child you are coming!! The children love to be  surprised!
