Dr. Stephanie Poxon Nominated for WorldStrides Teacher of the Year

Congratulations Dr. Stephanie Poxon for being nominated for WorldStrides Teacher of the Year! Several weeks ago, WorldStrides asked students and their families to nominate a favorite teacher for this honor, and they chose Dr. Poxon!

Here’s what one of them had to say about your impact as a teacher:

“I would like to nominate Dr. Stephanie Poxon for WorldStrides Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Poxon is the department chair for the Center for the Arts. As our leader, she works tirelessly with students, parents, teachers and administration to make the center a shining example of arts and academics at Henrico High School. Juggling theatre, musical theatre, dance, art while keeping everyone happy and organized by itself is an arduous task. But Dr. Poxon’s work does not stop there, it merely begins. Dr. Poxon passionately cares for every student in the Center. A constantly half empty bowl of chocolates on her desk is a testament to the countless check-ins she has with students. She holds them accountable for their academic progress while taking a personal interest in their lives. She celebrates their achievements, corrects them when they need to make better choices, and lends a compassionate ear when they struggle. You will not meet are more nurturing leader. As the leader of the Fine Arts Department, her passion for her staff is just as strong. Dr. Poxon leads with professionalism, fairness and respect. She is actively involved in every field of the department. She attends virtually every gallery event, every concert or performance, and even plays the piano for every drama club musical. In short, she practically lives at Henrico High School. Probably the most amazing thing about Dr. Poxon is that she does all of it with a smile. In fact, Dr. Poxon’s only true deficit is that she makes it look easy. People don’t realize how much work she does nor do they realize how well she does it because she just gets it done. She is a champion for the Center, a role model for her staff, and a warrior for each and every student and I whole-heartedly recommend her for this award.”
