About Ms. Courtney

I have been teaching with HCPS for 9 years. I taught 7 years as a teacher for students in grades K-5 with multiple disabilities and I am currently teaching an early childhood special education class. I love working with children and families and I hope this blog can be a place where we can share information that will help us make a big difference in the lives of the kids!

Screen time, sleep, and physical activity for preschoolers

The World Health Organization recommends that Preschoolers ages 3-4 should be getting:

  • NO MORE THAN 60 minutes of screen time per day from all sources (TV, DVDs, computer, tablet, apps, smart phones, etc).
  • 180 minutes (3 hours) of physical activity, 1 hour of which should be moderate intensity (like playing on the playground or running around with friends)
  • 10-13 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period (including naps).  So if your child is up at 6:30 in the morning, and takes a 2-hour afternoon nap, they should be in bed ASLEEP before 8:30.
