Review: NCIS

By Tameasha Blair

In the new CBS drama “NCIS: New Orleans,” a small but powerful team of federal cops investigate the deaths of navy servicemen and women. A spin-off of the original “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angles,” the drama follows the same structure and organization of its predecessors. Each episode starts with an interesting photo that foreshadows a suspenseful scene to come. Each well-crafted episode has a sailor’s death within the first five minutes, and in the rest of the one-hour show, an interesting police procedural story unfolds.

The premier episode of “NCIS: New Orleans” begins with a rough confrontation between two men that leads to the unexpected discovery of a man’s leg. Eventually, the rest of his body and the heartless murderer will be found. What happened that night? What caused the sailor to be killed?

That’s when the Naval Criminal Investigative Service comes in to answer these questions. TV veteran Scott Bakula (“Quantum Leap”) plays detective and team leader Dwayne Pride, the equivalent to Special Agent Leroy Gibbs on the original “NCIS.” When he discovers the body and realizes who it is, the case becomes personal, and Special Agent Pride will stop at nothing to solve it.

As the show advances, there are unforeseeable twists, so it’s important to pay full attention; however, most viewers will be glued to the gripping television show.

Diehard fans of “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angles” will find that their “NCIS” obsession will only grow once they check out “NCIS: New Orleans.” Gangs, tattoos, politicians, artists, jazz musicians, drugs, drug dealers, a drive-by and guns make the show a true member of the “NCIS” family with a dash of Nawlins’ flavor.
