Review: If We’re Honest

In her new album, “If We’re Honest,” contemporary Christian artist Francesca Battistelli is most certainly up to her usual standard.

She combines the inspirational with the uplifting to bring her audience 13 songs that will put a smile on their faces. The songs closely match the sound of past works, “My Paper Heart” and “Hundred More Years,” but they take a higher road with meaning.

Battistelli’s work has always been Christ-centered and positive, yet the lyrics in “If We’re Honest” focus on elevating the soul. For example, “Giants Fall” expresses how problems can be overcome with small amounts of faith. It’s the perfect song to pull anyone out of a rut.

“Write Your Story,” which aired on Christian music radio before the album’s release, beautifully compares the human life to a book or medium that is ready to be transformed into a work of art by the hands of God. Her view that each person is a story ready to be written by Holy hands stands as proof to this album’s uplifting tone. It ranks at four on the U.S. Christian charts and at one on Christian Airplay charts.

Aside from a few slow songs, such as “Just the Same,” a good portion of the album is upbeat. “If We’re Honest” has music that makes listeners want to get up and dance. Battistelli’s sound falls under the categories of pop and soul, and it creates the desire to get up and dance and the power to make listeners want to sing along with her on the album.

Battistelli has once again stolen the stage to present a masterful conglomeration of positive, uplifting music that is sure to touch listeners’ souls. Whether they need a pick-me-up or just good, wholesome music, her audience will not be disappointed. Overall, “If We’re Honest” is an album that will definitely “write [its] story on your heart.”
