Welcome Back!

Welcome to First Grade!
We have a fun year ahead of us and I am excited about working with you and your child. I have highlighted a few important items you will need to know to help your child get ready for the first day of school.

I encourage you to put your child on the bus on Tuesday morning. It helps the children transition in the morning, when they arrive to school early and have time to socialize and unpack. All transportation changes for the afternoon must be submitted in writing. Please include student name, date, and parent signature. If you plan on consistently picking up your child in the afternoon, please secure a CAR RIDER TAG from the office. Please renew your tag from last year or secure a new one. If your child is a bus rider in the afternoon, please be sure they have the colored pipe cleaner attached to the loop of their backpack.

The students will have time for a snack each day. Please send your child to school with ONE, NUT-FREE, healthy snack, such as crackers, fruit, veggies, pretzels, etc. Water bottles are the only drinks allowed in the classroom. Your child may also keep a water bottle on his or her desk to drink from throughout the day. Make sure they are capable of opening/refilling their own bottle. Bottles with a spout/straw are preferred, as they are not as likely to spill.

Students may pack lunch or purchase from the school cafeteria. We strongly encourage using the online account system for lunch money. My School Bucks is available for managing your students’ cafeteria accounts, check balances and purchases, get low-balance alerts and set up automatic payments www.myschoolbucks.com. See what’s on the menu at your school with Nutrislice https://henrico.nutrislice.com. If sending lunch from home, help your child learn how the containers open in their lunch box. Be sure that you have included necessary utensils and napkins. Out of respect for your child’s growing independence, please wait to come eat lunch until the 3rd week of school.

RYCOR Online Forms
Most back-to-school forms need to be filled out online using RYCOR (formerly ZippSlipp) at https://www.studentquickpay.com/henrico/. The window closes on Sunday, Sept. 2nd. You will need your student’s ID number. Please go to the cafeteria today if you need computer access to complete these forms. PTA volunteers will be available to help you complete the necessary online forms. Any other forms in the blue folder will need to be filled out by hand and returned to school ASAP.

“My School Anywhere”-the new nlist
The school will be switching from nList to My School Anywhere this year. Important classroom information and volunteer opportunities will come through on My School Anywhere. Please sign-up today at www.myschoolanywhere.com. “Request to join” emails may come through your junk folder. Check shortly after registering.

Take Home Folders/Behavior Calendar
Your child will bring home their take home folder every night. Included in the folder may be completed work, important flyers/information, and their behavior calendar. Please initial their calendar nightly (this will not start the first week) and review work with your child. Return folders every day with the calendar.

We will discuss most of our homework expectations and curriculum expectations at Back to School Night on Thursday, Sept. 20th. This evening meeting is for parents only. We will begin at 6:30 pm in the multi-purpose room. Our theme for the first two weeks of school is Back-to-School/Citizenship. We will be learning about one another, establishing classroom routines, and expectations. For the first week’s homework assignment, students will receive a scrapbook page to create. The page will be combined to make a class book. You may even have one you can update from kindergarten! Return the completed page by Monday, September 10th.

August 2018

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you at Open House on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 2:00 – 4:00. Please bring your school supplies to drop off and meet me and your new classmates!
